Relaxing and Accessible Spa Experience

I had a fantastic experience at Wai Ariki. The timing was perfect, as I visited around sunset, and I love sunsets. The views were beautiful, and I really enjoyed the entire seven-step restorative journey. It was a wonderful way to relax after my long international flight from New York to Auckland and several busy days exploring Auckland and Rotorua. I especially appreciated the thoughtful accessibility accommodations. As a deaf visitor, I was provided with a transcript on a tablet for the guided introduction, which was very helpful. I was also able to follow Sina's explanations using my speech-to-text app. Having both options made the experience much more accessible and allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. The staff were welcoming, thoughtful, and attentive throughout my visit. It was clear that a great deal of care went into creating a meaningful and relaxing experience. For those looking for a quiet, adults-only wellness experience, Wai Ariki is an excellent choice. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rotorua and looking for a unique wellness experience that combines relaxation with Māori culture and traditions.

Kia ora Svetlana, Thank you for sharing such a rich, thoughtful, and personal reflection, it’s clear how much this experience meant to you, and your words highlight so many aspects that make the Restorative Journey special. Visiting at sunset, especially when you love sunsets, sounds like the perfect moment. The combination of geothermal warmth, soft evening light, and the calm of the seven‑step journey must have created a beautifully grounding transition after long‑haul travel and busy days exploring Aotearoa. Your comments about accessibility are especially meaningful. Knowing that the team provided a transcript on a tablet, and that you could follow Sina’s explanations using your speech‑to‑text app, shows how intentional the staff were in ensuring you felt included, informed, and fully able to enjoy the experience. Accessibility done well isn’t just functional, it’s welcoming, and your experience reflects that. It’s also wonderful to hear how warm, thoughtful, and attentive the staff were throughout your visit. That level of care is at the heart of the experience, especially when it’s woven together with Māori culture, wairua, and tradition. Your recommendation for those seeking a quiet, adults‑only wellness experience is spot‑on, and your endorsement for visitors to Rotorua carries real weight because it comes from such a genuine place. Ngā mihi nui, your feedback is deeply appreciated. It highlights what’s working beautifully and affirms the importance of accessibility, cultural connection, and thoughtful hospitality. We’re glad your time at Wai Ariki offered relaxation, meaning, and a sense of welcome after such a long journey.

Restorative, Relaxing, and Almost Perfect

It felt fitting to spend the shortest day of the year in Wai Ariki’s geothermal waters, making our way through the 7-step restorative journey. At the end, we felt very relaxed and rejuvenated. There weren’t so many people such that it felt too busy or crowded (except for in the salt sauna where another gaggle of guests were talking loudly and not paying heed to the sign of it being a quiet space). The different pools were wonderful to move between, adjusting to the different temperatures. The fact it was a wintery day was perfect; it was cold, yet so lovely to watch the rain fall immersed in the geothermal waters. The attendants kept the pool spaces extremely clean and tidy, and I saw them disinfecting the mud bath loungers between guests. However, the reason I have 4 stars and not 5 was because of the state of the ladies’ changing rooms - particularly the showers. The latter were not as clean, and had not been prepared between guests. Make sure to bring a pair of aquatic shoes!

Kia ora, Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and beautifully detailed review, it really paints a vivid picture of your visit. Spending the shortest day of the year immersed in geothermal waters and moving through the 7‑step Restorative Journey sounds like an experience that landed exactly as intended: grounding, calming, and deeply rejuvenating. Your reflections on the winter rain, the shifting pool temperatures, and the peaceful atmosphere (mostly!) capture the essence of what makes the journey so special. It’s great to hear that the attendants’ care and cleanliness stood out, especially around the pools and mud baths. At the same time, your note about the ladies’ changing rooms and showers is genuinely valuable. Feedback like this helps highlight where consistency can be improved so the entire experience feels as polished as the Journey itself. Your mention of the quiet space not being respected in the salt sauna is also important. Maintaining that sense of tranquillity is a big part of what makes the journey restorative, and your observation helps reinforce how essential that is. hindsight. Ngā mihi nui, we to see you again soon for an even better experience.

Review on Wai Ariki

Experience wise I think they did a good job , especially going as a Big group , they did a good job managing as . The thing about Wai Ariki being diffrent from others is the way they imlemented the maori heirtage through the buildings , which inlcudes the sculptures , the floor and the the way the building is constructed . Fees wise i think pay about 175 PER PERSON is worth it for 2 hour experience which provided towels and essentials .

Kia ora! Thank you for sharing your review of Wai Ariki Hot Springs and Spa, we truly appreciate it. It’s great to hear that your overall experience was positive, especially visiting as a big group. Managing larger bookings smoothly is something the team works hard on, so it’s wonderful to know it felt well‑organised for you. Your comments about the way Māori heritage is woven into the entire space are really special. That cultural foundation is what makes Wai Ariki unique, and it’s lovely to hear it stood out so strongly for you. It’s also helpful to hear your thoughts on the pricing. For a two‑hour experience that includes access to all facilities, towels, and essentials, we’re glad you felt the value matched what was offered. Ngā mihi nui, we hope to welcome you back again soon.

A wonderful journey

A wonderful evening and experience. 2 .5 - 3 hours would be perfect with the time needed in the saunas and mud rooms. But otherwise fantastic overall.

Favorite experience in Rotorua

Our family of four (children 19 and 21) did the 2 hour restorative journey and it was well worth every penny. We went in the evening and had a magical experience. The facility is beautiful, right on the lake and there are several saunas and hot pools to enjoy. The ice treatment and cold water bucket over the head produced lots of laughs. The jet bubble pool was our highlight. And the body mud bake at the end was a perfect way to end the evening.

Risposta dell'operatore

Kia ora Christine, Thank you for sharing such a vivid and heartfelt reflection. It sounds like your family’s Restorative Journey became one of those rare experiences where everything just comes together. The lakeside setting, the warmth of the atmosphere, and the chance to move through each stage together made it feel truly special. Doing it as a family with older children adds another layer of meaning, and it’s wonderful that everyone enjoyed it. The laughter during the ice treatment and cold‑water bucket, the joy of the jet bubble pool, and the calm of ending with the mud bake paint a picture of an evening that was both fun and deeply relaxing. That blend of connection, playfulness, and restoration is exactly what makes the journey feel magical at night. Ngā mihi nui — it’s lovely to hear this was your favourite Rotorua experience. We’d be delighted to welcome you all back again.
