Tutte le cerimonie ufficiali e importanti della famiglia hanno avuto luogo in questa chiesa, costruita in realtà dall'architetto dei Medici: Filippo Brunelleschi, il genio del Duomo di Firenze. A San Lorenzo si trova anche l'antica Sacrestia e molti manufatti dello scultore Donatello! Le tombe ei memoriali medicei sono nella stessa chiesa e hanno un ingresso separato ... queste sono le famose cappelle medicee, un'opera perfetta di Michelangelo!
