Duemila anni di storia affascinante prendono vita al Colosseo, l'arena dell'antica Roma dove si svolgevano i combattimenti dei gladiatori. Il Colosseo è un'incredibile impresa di ingegneria e una testimonianza della brillantezza ingegneristica dell'antica Roma.
L'Arco di Costantino è uno dei numerosi archi trionfali dell'Antica Roma, situato sulla piazza appena fuori dal Colosseo. La sua posizione era significativa nell'antichità, collegando l'area del Foro Romano ai maggiori complessi di intrattenimento e bagni pubblici del centro di Roma.

I ritrovamenti archeologici mostrano che il Colle Palatino era abitato fin dal X secolo aC, ma i suoi giorni di gloria furono al tempo dell'Impero Romano, quando questo era fondamentalmente il Beverly Hills di Roma. La nobiltà romana aveva le sue case qui, incluso l'imperatore, che poteva assistere alle corse dei carri dal suo palazzo.
Il Campidoglio è il più piccolo e il più importante dei sette colli dell'Antica Roma. In quanto cuore politico e religioso di Roma, il Campidoglio divenne un simbolo del regno di Roma come Caput Mundi, capitale del mondo. Ufficialmente noto come Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, l'enorme monumento in marmo bianco che domina Piazza Venezia fu costruito come tributo al primo re di un'Italia unita, Vittorio Emanuele II.
Costruito più di 1800 anni fa, il magnifico Pantheon si erge ancora come un ricordo del grande Impero Romano. Il nome Pantheon si riferisce alla funzione originaria dell'edificio come tempio per tutti gli dei. La struttura è famosa per la sua bella cupola a cassettoni, un'opera sorprendente e mistificante di architettura e ingegneria, con un gigantesco oculo al centro. NOTA BENE: La visione del Pantheon dall'esterno è gratuita. A partire da luglio 2023, è necessario un biglietto per visitare l'interno. Il biglietto costa 10 euro a persona. Che tu ci creda o no, la Fontana di Trevi è ancora alimentata da un antico acquedotto: l'Aqua Virgo, costruito nel 19 a.C. L'elaborata fontana barocca del Bernini, un capolavoro di figure mitiche in travertino, è la fontana più riconoscibile al mondo.
La Basilica di San Pietro si trova dall'altra parte del fiume Tevere rispetto al centro storico di Roma. La location è altamente simbolica; questo fu il luogo dove San Pietro morì martire e dove fu sepolto nel 64 d.C. La massiccia chiesa, con la sua bellissima cupola progettata da Michelangelo, ospita molte opere d'arte, tra cui la più famosa Pietà di Michelangelo. A questa fermata avrai tempo per vedere la chiesa e la piazza dall'esterno; non entreremo nella basilica.
Il verdeggiante colle del Gianicolo è punteggiato da monumenti a Garibaldi e al suo esercito improvvisato, che combatté aspre battaglie nella lotta per l'unificazione italiana in questo luogo nel 1849. L'eroe italiano è commemorato con un imponente monumento in Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi, mentre il suo brasiliano la moglie, Anita, ha il suo monumento a circa 200 metri di distanza in Piazzale Anita Garibaldi. Anita morì di malaria, insieme al nascituro, poco dopo l'assedio.

With Rome’s distance from the port, this small group tour is the way to go! We really enjoyed our day with Federico! He was an excellent driver, showing us “alternate routes” (hee-hee) to many places. He was very knowledgeable about all the sites and Rome’s history without overwhelming us with too many facts and details. His recommendation for lunch was fabulous! We highly recommend taking this tour; we are definitely glad we did!

Experience could have been better. Our driver/guide did not offer any history information and/or didn’t communicate about a location/site until we were practically past it. Didn’t realize we missed a few things around the coliseum until we had left because he wasn’t forthcoming with information. Where he took us for lunch was amazing. Then we were only supposed to be at St. Paul’s cathedral for an hour, he said 2 hours. We didn’t want to wait 2 hours as we just wanted a pic outside, had no interest in going in, but the other group with us did. So, we took and paid for a taxi to take us back to port. Next time we do a tour like this, we will do it with just our group. We spent more time today waiting for the other people in our van than we were at some sites. For what we paid, should have been more accommodating for both groups. This was supposed to be a highlights tour, not a detailed tour of sites.

For this reason, the route, stops, and timing cannot be customized according to one individual traveler’s preferences. As described in the service details, our English-speaking driver provides live commentary onboard during transit between stops. While the driver is not a licensed walking guide and therefore cannot accompany guests on foot at each site, they do provide clear instructions and orientation before guests explore independently. Regarding the stop at St. Peter’s Basilica, the timing at each location may vary slightly depending on traffic, group pace, and operational conditions on the day. Since this was a shared experience, the schedule also needed to accommodate the interests of all participants in the vehicle. We understand that shared tours may not be ideal for travelers seeking a more personalized pace or the flexibility to skip certain stops. In that case, a private tour would indeed be the more suitable option, as it allows full customization of the itinerary and timing based solely on your group’s preferences. Great day with Ricardo. He made sure we got to see all of the highlights. Due to passenger van we could get so much closer than in a bus so less walking to the sites. He was knowledgeable and entertaining.

Excellent experience with Riccardo has our driver. He was prompt meeting us at the cruise port and assisted us with our luggage. He gave thought and added special stops to our day in Rome. We were able to experience a wonderful lunch at a local restaurant thanks to his recommendation.
