Shipka Memorial Church è un eccezionale tempio ortodosso bulgaro costruito tra il 1885 e il 1902 nella città di Shipka ai piedi della catena dei Balcani. Il complesso del monumento Shipka è dedicato ai soldati russi, ucraini e bulgari morti per la liberazione della Bulgaria durante la guerra russo-turca nel 1877-78.
Arbanassi è uno dei villaggi più straordinari della Bulgaria. È noto per la ricca storia e il gran numero di monumenti storici, come le chiese del XVII e XVIII secolo ed esempi di architettura del revival nazionale bulgaro. Scopriamo la chiesa più antica del paese, la Natività di Cristo (1637 - 1649), scavata nel terreno senza campanile e con cupola nascosta. Questo imponente monumento, completamente dipinto dall'interno, è una vera e propria galleria d'arte di murales con oltre 3.500 figure incredibilmente realistiche e scene bibliche, dipinte da artisti sconosciuti nel corso dei secoli. La nostra prossima tappa è la casa museo Konstantsalieva originariamente costruita nel XVII secolo e splendidamente restaurata in stile National Revival. Riflette non solo la ricchezza dei proprietari ma anche l'attenzione ai dettagli e la qualità artigianale di quel tempo.
Uno dei monumenti più sorprendenti della Bulgaria è la sua ex capitale Veliko Tarnovo (popolazione: 71 000 abitanti). L'affascinante cittadina è situata ad anfiteatro a 210 m s. S. l. sul fiume Yantra. La capitale storica del Secondo Regno bulgaro attira molti turisti con la sua architettura unica e splendidi paesaggi. Il primo sito che esploriamo in città è l'imponente Fortezza di Tsarevets, una roccaforte medievale situata su una collina con lo stesso nome.Tsarevets è stata la fortezza principale dell'Impero bulgaro e il più forte baluardo dal 1185 al 1393. Poi andiamo a fare una passeggiata lungo l'incantevole Veliko La strada principale di Tarnovo, la pittoresca via Gourko e l'autentica via Samovodska Charshiya nel centro storico, dove vediamo alcune mostre di artigianato, pezzi d'arte e souvenir tradizionali.

I was the only person on the excursion, so it was a completely private trip, and I could pick and choose aspects of it. In terms of the sights, Shipka and Arbanassi are excellent if you like ornate Orthodox churches, like me, and Veliko Tarnovo, with its fortress, is a must for an insight into Bulgarian history. The guide was great, happy, cheerful, friendly and chatty throughout, even though it was a very hot day and we were both a bit frazzled after a while. He even saved a turtle. The car was fine and comfy with a/c. I have removed one point out of five because the company kept pestering my guide all day long with repeated texts and phone calls. That we had to break off conversations a few times is a minor annoyance, but that he had to take calls while driving is a clear road safety issue.
Hello, And thank you for your time to review your trip. Please note that during the very busy season communication with the guides might be urgent at some times. The guide you had on that day is one of our best ones and he took only urgent calls that were short. He had declined all the personal calls and calls that weren’t urgent in order to provide the best possible service. I’m quite sure you have noticed your guide was the safest driver you can have. Safety has never been an issue during your trip (as it is always with our tours) and I’m surprised that you bring up this “road safety issue”. According to Bulgarian road laws (and road regulations in all countries around the world) driving and talking on the phone is allowed only when both hands of the driver are on the steering wheel. Your driver had always had his hands on the wheel while on the phone and he had answered urgent calls only. And you had the safest trip possible.
