Ultimate Maui Whale Watch Snorkeling Tour

We live in Kauai and have gone on countless whale watching and snorkeling experiences here in Maui during whale season. This experience with Griff, our guide, was by far, the very best we have ever experienced. Not just because we saw 4/5 whales, or that the weather was perfect, or that during our snorkel, we saw two turtles, countless fish (including a mahi mahi chasing flying fish) and a beautiful reef. All those are incredibly awesome! But I must admit, having Griff as our tour guide was really what put this trip over the top! He was outstanding in every way. He kept us engaged and provided his knowledge on whales, turtles, fish, all the islands, and the importance of being respectful to the Hawaiian land and culture. He was so genuine! His passion and love of his work was infectious!He definitely lives A l o h a!! Mahalo Griff!!

We had a wonderful time whale watching in mid-February, and Griff was a great guide who was very knowledgeable. We also saw sea turtles and lots of fish while snorkeling. Griff got some pictures and videos too, which was great. One thing that was different than the Viator listing was that water & snacks were not provided. We had a great time, thank you!

10/10! I hardly have the words to describe how incredible this tour was. This was a life experience that I will remember and treasure forever. Being so close and present with these incredible creatures is something of magic. Griff is so knowledgeable, friendly and hospitable. Being able to spend some time with him as your guide is the cherry on top of an already amazing sundae! Whale, I can’t recommend this excursion enough. Another fabulous kayak with Griff! This was our fourth tour with Griff but only our second whale watch, and we had a blast. We saw a good number of whales in the distance for the first couple of hours. Heading back towards the snorkeling area, Griff spotted a small group of whales that ended up surfacing pretty close to us. It was a mother and baby, so the baby surfaced much more frequently than the mother. Then we wrapped up with some snorkeling with the turtles. Whale sightings are never guaranteed, so we really appreciated all of Griff's efforts to deliver another great whale watch.

Griff was absolutely awesome — a true pro. The night before our tour, he checked the weather and decided to move us to a different location so we’d have the best possible experience. Thanks to his experience and local knowledge, we had a perfect day on the water learning about Maui, the reef, and the marine life. If you’re even a little timid in the water, Griff is the guide you want. He’s patient, encouraging, and makes you feel completely comfortable without any pressure. My wife absolutely loved him! Couldn’t recommend Aloha Kayaks Maui (and especially Griff) more highly. Five stars isn’t enough — if I could push it to 11, I would!

I highly recommend this kayak adventure. Griff the guide is great! Friendly, knowledge and all around good human. It’s a whale watching tour and you will see them around all over at the right time of year. Understand that close encounters are pure luck and right place right time but enjoy the views and conversation along with watching them in the distance and up close if you’re lucky!

Absolutely amazing! Griff knew exactly where to take us. We listened to a whale sing somewhere deep under our kayaks. It was incredible. I would highly recommend this tour!

Our guide Griff was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately, there were only a few whales to be seen. But we were able to get nice pictures of sea turtles when snorkeling. Kind of hard to predict what you will see but had a great time overall.

This was such a memorable tour! I was concerned that I would be too weak to paddle this long, but did fine as we would stop and listen and watch. Griff’s love of the ocean and Maui and his vast historical and scientific knowledge was amazing and brought it all together for the perfect trip. We saw a new baby whale still being buoyed up by his Mama, several others as well, however my very favorite part was sitting and listening for about 15 minutes to a lone male “sing”!!! I have been so on many whale tours and I have never heard this!! Just beyond words! Our snorkel afterwards broad sightings of several sea turtles and beautiful coral and fish Thanks Griff for such a wonderful morning and experience!

What a fun experience! I booked this tour over others because of the reviews, and they were not wrong. Griff was an awesome guide. He talked to us about the Hawaiian culture and the importance of learning and showing respect when you visit places. Griff was knowledgeable about marine life and shared the information he’s learned over the years. He was super chill and relaxed. It made us feel relaxed. The kayaking was work, but enjoyable. We saw a couple different whales, and happened upon a pod of dolphins. That was super cool. They swam all around us and flipped in the air. The snorkeling at the end was fun. My kids really enjoyed that. My younger son was a bit hesitant about the snorkeling. Griff helped him out and was patient with him. It made my son’s experience better and he ended up really liking it. We enjoyed our time with Griff. It felt like we were out having fun with a friend, nice conversations and beautiful scenery. Would definitely book again with Aloha Kayaks!
