I went on the night death tour and had a good time. The tour guide was well-informed, personable, and fun. She was always open to questions, asides, and a few good laughs. It was all-in-all very enjoyable. I would not describe the tour as particularly macabre or ghostly (in fact I don't remember ever touching on spooky or paranormal topics - which was fine by me), but more just factual information about the who, how, why, etc. of death in an historical/sociological/anthropological context.
Thank you for joining the Twilight Tour and for your thoughtful review. We’re glad you enjoyed the mix of history and humor. You’re right; this isn’t your typical ghost tour. We focus on the real stories and cultural history of how New Yorkers have faced death over the past 400 years. Hope to see you on another Purefinder New York tour soon!
The tour was great, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and it covered a deeper history of the FiDi/Battery Park area.

As a New Yorker, it’s easy to rush past Lower Manhattan’s iconic sites without a second thought. This tour changes that, bringing history to life through entertaining and memorable stories. Covering everything from saints and criminals, to pirates and Indigenous & settler history, it offers a well-rounded and engaging perspective. The route is thoughtfully planned—you’re never in one spot too long, and each stop is just a short walk away. This was my second tour with Purefinder, and I highly recommend them!
Thank you. We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you on future tours with Purefinder New York!
One of the best experiences you can have in NYC! Have lived in the city for 9 years and have learned so much on two tours with Krombie. Absolutely amazing!
Our guide Krombie was great. She had the perfect personality for this tour - approachable with humorous moments and “just creepy enough” insights to spark the imagination. As the author of “Death in New York,” she was both passionate and incredibly knowledgeable on the subject. Not morbid, more quirky macabre. The topics ranged from first recorded deaths to cenotaphs. The route was quite manageable. The southern tip of Manhattan has so much interesting history. The time of the tour, 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm (ish), was nice for the subject and because there’s not a lot of foot traffic in that area in the evening. There is noisy street traffic at times (trucks, mainly), but you can’t really avoid that on any walking tour in New York. Our group had a good time. I would take another tour with Krombie.
Embarking on a solo tour that delved into the unique aspects of death management within New York City proved to be an unexpectedly enlightening experience. What stood out, even more, was our guide — an absolute gem. With a knack for storytelling that was as entertaining as it was informative, Krombie unearthed hidden facets of the city with a hearty amount of laughter. A great experience to peer beyond the city’s bustling life.
