L'Alhambra, situata sulla collina Sabica, è una città palatina andalusa. Il suo nome deriva dal colore rossastro delle sue pareti, proveniente dall'argilla della terra stessa (Al-Hamra in arabo). È formato da un gruppo di palazzi, giardini e fortezze in cui vi era una cittadella all'interno della stessa città di Granada, la sua funzione principale era quella di ospitare il monarca e la corte del regno nasride di Granada. Ci sono anche insediamenti cristiani, come il palazzo di Carlo V e la chiesa di Santa Maria, costruita sulla vecchia moschea. È uno dei monumenti più visitati in Spagna ed è stato dichiarato Patrimonio dell'Umanità nel 1984. Goditi la visita con una guida ufficiale.
L'Alcazaba è la parte più antica dell'Alhambra, dall'arabo: القصبة al-qaṣbah (cittadella) era un recinto fortificato di carattere urbano, la cui funzione era quella di servire come residenza reale a Mohamed I fino a quando i Palazzi furono terminati, da lì la sua funzione era puramente militare.
I Palazzi Nasridi, sono un complesso di palazzo dell'Alhambra di Granada formato da due palazzi indipendenti, il Palazzo di Comares e il Palazzo dei Leoni, e annessi, Mexuar, la sua costruzione risale al primo terzo del XIV secolo. L'Alcázar o "Qasr al-Sultán" era l'area del palazzo dell'Alhambra, il nucleo del regno nasride. In questa zona risiedevano i sultani, oltre a ricevere un pubblico, disdegnare gli affari del governo o gestire l'amministrazione del tribunale.
Il palazzo di Carlos V è una costruzione rinascimentale dell'architetto Pedro Machuca. Il palazzo è unico nel suo stile, formando una piazza con un cortile circolare inscritto all'interno. È l'opera più eccezionale del Rinascimento spagnolo.
Il Generalife è la villa con giardini utilizzati dai re musulmani di Granada come luogo di ritiro e riposo. È stato concepito come una villa rurale, dove giardini ornamentali, frutteti e architettura sono stati integrati nelle vicinanze dell'Alhambra. Il nome che diamo al complesso del Generalife significa letteralmente Yannat al-Arif: "The Architect's Garden", un'allusione ai giardini e ai frutteti che fornivano frutta e verdura alla corte nasride. Tuttavia, il palazzo a cui ci stiamo dirigendo, progettato come luogo di riposo per il monarca, era ciò che il poeta Ibn al-Jayyab chiamava "la casa reale della felicità".
El Partal integra resti archeologici e architettonici corrispondenti alle sale palatine. Il suo nome in arabo significa portico e si riferisce ai resti della residenza di Sultan Muhammad III, il più settentrionale e il più antico. In questi giardini è possibile vedere i resti di diversi palazzi, poiché questa zona era abitata dalla nobiltà musulmana. Il più importante fu il Palazzo di Yusuf III, con una pianta simile al Palazzo di Comares, tristemente demolito nel XVIII secolo. We expected more structure, details and interesting facts during this tour. The information was presented in a kind of semi random fashion. No supplemental materials (maps, floor plans, timeline diagrams were used). The guide was pretty unenthusiastic and just led us trhough Generalife, palaces and fortress with ability to take quick selfies. We expected much more especially after our free walking tour of the city that has offered all of the above.

Take a local bus from Granada town to the meeting point. Alhambra is on the top of the hill and the route is really steep. Nasrid palace is absolute gem so book it with the tour. Wear comfortable shoes as the tour lasts 3 hours.

I wish to warn all travelers about this agency. Their website is structured to appear among the top results on search engines, misleading users and effectively posing as the official channel. I purchased tickets for the Alhambra only to discover afterward that the price they charged is four times higher than the actual cost from the official vendor (Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife). Once on site, speaking with the staff at the official ticket office, I confirmed that I am not at all the first to fall into this trap and that the situation is unfortunately well known to everyone locally. I find it scandalous that these platforms are allowed to profit in this way by speculating on tourists' misinformation. If you want to visit the Alhambra, make sure to purchase only and exclusively from the official website of the Patronato to avoid this enormous unjustified extra expense. Stay away from it.

Not for people with walking disability. The organization is poor. Backwards and forwards. People sending you one way and then another. Not very friendly or helpful staff either. Poor signage when we saw any. Sandra, our guide was excellent
