This tour through the pyramid fields of Saqqara and Dahshur is really highly recommended. Safy, a young Egyptologist, is an extremely dedicated guide. Together with her driver Mohamed, you explore the ancient monuments scattered over a large area. The ruin fields are rarely visited, there are hardly any tourists there, and you often have the accessible monuments all to yourself. Without a tour with someone like Safy and Mohamed, it would be impossible to see more than just one monument in a day – let alone understand what the history of these places is. Safy is a warm young woman who takes great care of the well-being of her guests. She provides a well-founded explanation of the significance and construction of the ruins, the history of the building, as well as its later use in the post-pharaonic period, and discusses what was found there (or what is missing). Another highlight is the optional visit to an orchard in a village, where you get a traditional dinner on the farm in an arbor under tall trees. You could say that it is almost the same there as it was a hundred years ago. In conversations with Safy, you also learn a lot about her own life as well as about Egyptian society and culture. I am very glad that I was able to use my short stay in Egypt to take this excursion, which was perfectly organized by Safy!
Beautiful trip, accompanied by an extremely kind and knowledgeable/cultured guide. I recommend to organize multiple activities with her if you have more days available.
My wife and I had completed a ten days "traditional Egyptian" tour and came across Sofie's itinerary on TripAdvisor. Unlike our previous group tour, Sofie provided a different experience with a focus on pre-dynastic Egyptian history with an "off the beaten feel" than at Giza. We enjoyed the complete experience and highly recommend.
I arrived on Egypt on Feb 28th, 2026. Contrary to the ongoing narrative Egypt is completely safe. There is no impact to Egypt due to the ongoing war between US and Iran. Now coming to Safey and her driver Mohammed, they are phenomenal people. I travelled to Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis with Safey. She is a passionate Egyptologist. While traveling with her we were completely safe and sound. She explained in detail about all the ancient monuments, their purpose of construction and vivid glimpses into Egyptian history. I would definitely recommend you to opt for the lunch at her Saqqara farm. I had the best bread in Egypt there with organic goat cheese. Can't recommend Safey enough. Definitely 11/10
We were very fortunate to have Safy as our guide for Saqqara, Dahshur, and Memphis. If you’re overwhelmed by the hundreds of tour guide options on TripAdvisor, you can feel confident choosing Safy. It’s immediately clear that she's smart and knowledgeable. Her English is excellent. Her explanations were easy to understand. Her pacing of the tour through the sites was on-point -- enough to keep it interesting and in-depth enough to make you feel like you learned something. Her advance communication was proactive and clear. She was thoughtful, generous, and hospitable (e.g., bringing disposable face masks to protect us from the sand in the wind around Saqqara and Dahshur that day). The tour's lunch break at the farmhouse was fantastic and ultra fresh; it was the best meal we had during our week in Cairo. The outdoor setting in the quiet garden was like an oasis and a fun contrast to touring Saqqara and Dahshur. The pictures on TripAdvisor that show her feeding the cats and dogs at Saqqara and Dahshur are accurate. If you're afraid of dogs, no need to worry, in our experience they are docile, don't bark, and don't jump around/get excited while being fed. Besides feeding animals at the sites, a couple times during the tour we made additional micro-stops so she could leave food for some animals in the vicinity. You could tell that she whole-heartedly cares about the animals. If you’re wondering whether you should get a guide to Saqqara/Dahshur/Memphis, the answer is yes. Cairo is not the kind of place to try and manage sightseeing on your own, especially with kids and even if you typically do so in other countries and are comfortable with public transit and walking long distances. After having seen what it would take to try to use public transit to get to the sites, I can assuredly say that without a Safy's facilitation, we wouldn't have been able to get to any of the sites. Her driver Mohamed was friendly, reliable, and prompt. We felt safe with him driving. Watching Safy handle the administrative procedures at the ticketing offices with her (of course) fluent Arabic was another reason that I was so glad to have her with us. With Safy guiding us we moved through/around the sites more efficiently -- we didn't have to figure out where to go or where we *could* go (since many of these sights don't have much signage). I noted that other tourists missed out on seeing some areas we got to see thanks to Safy's knowledge of the sites. That added to the 'specialness' and the feeling of adventure. It's worth it to see Saqqara and Dahshur in addition to the Great Pyramids. We took Safy's tour prior to seeing the latter and were glad we did -- there were barely any people at the Saqqara and Dahshur. Again, we found Safy to be smart and kind and thoughtful. We felt entirely taken care of throughout. Hiring her was 100% worth it for us. I would certainly choose her again and would recommend her to friends and family.
The experiencia with our guide So was more than full of knowledge, it was an experience of how a tour can be with human touch, care for the animals and history. Thanks for the unforgettable moments and the things we learned. Our kids loved you were so kind to them and to the cats and dogs. For sure next time we come back to Egypt we will ask her to be our guide. Totally recommended 👌✨️👍
Sofie is knowledgeable, kind and eager to answer any question and also adjust the tempo and itinerary as per wishes. Also must mention Mohammed, her excellent and humble driver.
I learned about this tour from The Amazing Tourist website and I really wish we did before we book our pyramids tour because it seems amazing and feeding dogs at these sites is such great idea, we saw many skinny animals in Egypt and we wish we have bought some food with us for them but as long as guides like this wonderful lady Safy are there, I wouldn't worry as much. With all these 5 stars I will definitely book it next time I am in Cairo
Safy is not only an amazing guide, but also an amazing person. Her knowledge, open mind, and heart make her standout. The Saqqara tour is a must see when visiting. Still speechless. Thank you 💕
