Fabulous experience — I highly recommend! The starting point is about 90min from the city center making it an easy day trip. The day with Zolo and Ogi was perfect— they accommodated my skill level, had safe and well outfitted equipment and packed a nice lunch. The scenery is unreal and the ride was fun and accessible for most levels. The museum is a nice addition as well. More impressive was that the guides from Mongolian Trekking actually helped me when I was in a bind on a different day in Mongolia. It’s a long story but I was in a bind and sent a WhatsApp to them as the only locals I knew. Zolo looked out for my well being as a solo female traveler and managed me safely out of a tricky situation through his local contacts and knowledge — all on his day off! Really amazing people at this company. Wish I knew about them before I arrived and I would have booked another excursion with this group.
On a business trip in Ulaanbaatar for 2 weeks, I had a day to enjoy the countryside. This daytrip is the perfect option if you like biking. Only ~45 minutes from Ulaanbaatar center, includes transportation, a visit of the amazing Gengis Khan statue water and the meal. The route is beautiful, lot of animals perfect for discovering the countryside. The journey is not very difficult, about 50 km, perfect to enjoy the view. Very happy with this day, and a big thank you to the very friendly guides!
This was a great day trip filled with great views and excellent company from our guides Zola and Orgi. The first part of the day saw us climb the Ghengis Khan statue. Zola had excellent knowledge and shared some history with us about Genghis Khan and his empire. We then drove to our starting spot and set off on the bikes. What a stunning way to soak up the rolling mountains. We were able to ride past sheep horses and Gers dotted across the hillside, which was special. We stopped a few times for photos and a break (what comes up must come down) with grest hospitality from the guides providing food and conversation. In short, excellent service and beautiful views - it was easy on the eyes but tough on the thighs!
Thank you Will for your feedback. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Mongolia. Best Regards, Zolo
This stopover destination became a highlight of our trip thanks to Samba with Mongolia Trekking. We booked easily online and the info was all accurate and helpful. Samba met us with a sign right at the train. Got us a good breakfast then he and the friendly driver took us out to the Genghis Khan Monument. Not only did they tune in to our comfort, prep, safety and skills; Samba is an amazing Ambassador for his country; full of knowledge as an educator, too! The excursion plan has a nice balance of sharing the area, history and culture without feeling rushed or that you are missing out on the ride aspect of the adventure. What an adventure we had! We were unprepared for the spectacular beauty or the thrilling interactions with herds on the steppe. Samba went above and beyond in all things and made sure that the ride he planned fit us and our travel profile, such a keen sense for that. He fine tuned my bike seat, took pics, shared great stories, even cleaned out my shoes after a bit of a mud foot bath (no extra charge!) was the cost of my one shortcut. What stood out was how capable Samba was at ensuring that every aspect of our visit turned out well, even helping us plan the following day with his local insights. The driver tailed us on the ride, managed lunch, water, gear then together they dropped us at the door of our (out of the way) Airbnb which we truly appreciated. You cannot go wrong with this quality outfitter and Samba, our new friend in Mongolia!
This quick stop-over turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip, even our lives! Samba ensures every detail is optimized. He is an expert ambassador for Mongolia. Super accommodating while strategic and flexible. Easy pick up, plus we would not have found our accommodations later without him and the kind driver. The Genghis Khan Monument/Museum is excellent, Samba is a natural educator. Loved the bikes, and support. He made our 36 mile trek possible, adjusting my seat for long term comfort, cleaning my shoes when the mud swallowed my feet and making sure the chase car was ready with water, snacks and lunch. So glad we booked with you and found Samba! Don't miss this place, this adventure! Very customized.
I was recently on business trip to Ulaanbaatar and had a weekend to explore the outlying countryside around the city. Through a friend I contacted Mongolia Trekking and after a discussion with Batbayar, he suggested a couple of day trips. One to the Hustain National park followed by the Baga Khentiy Mountain Bike Day tour. My guide for the day to the national park was Otgo, who was very knowledgeable and her English was very good. We traveled to the visitors centre where learnt about the wild life, flora and fauna, then traveled into the heart of the National park. We decided to go for a hike for around an hour, off the trail roads, where we caught glimpses of the wild Prezewalski horses, red deer, marmot, golden eagles. It was a hot day so lots of water and sturdy shoes were a must. You may need a good camera with some kind of telescopic lens to shoot great pictures of the wildlife. The following day I headed off for a mountain bike ride with my guide Nara. As the tour notes stated we started off at the Chinggis Khan statue and headed into the valleys. Within 8km we were in remote areas surrounded only by sheep, goats, yaks cattle, the odd herdsman, and passing by a few nomadic gers. We had a picnic lunch near a small spring where young cattle were taking a drink, before setting off on a more gentle ride through the valley floor. The guides carried plenty of water for us which was lucky as on a 48km ride we needed some hydration. The organisation was excellent I was picked up and dropped off at the hotel, the guides knowledgeable, mountain bike was good quality and the hospitality great. Would certainly use Batbayar and the company again.
