Tour privato di un'intera giornata al castello di Urquhart Loch Ness e Inverness

Prendendoti dal cancello del porto, viaggiamo lungo la riva del Cromarty Firth e attraversiamo il ponte Cromarty fino all'Isola Nera e ci dirigiamo verso Beauly Priory, il monastero del XIII secolo costruito per un ordine di monaci Valliscaulian di Digione in Francia e distrutto da Le forze di Cromwell nel XVI secolo. Faremo quindi una breve sosta per vedere alcuni bovini delle Highland (vedi foto) prima di proseguire sulla collina di Culnakirk fino a Drumnadrochit e visitare il castello di Urquhart che si trova su un promontorio che si protende verso Loch Ness, i panorami del lago sono fantastici da qui ed era qui vicino che si dice che San Colombano abbia visto il mostro di Loch Ness. Ci dirigiamo quindi verso Inverness e quando arriviamo a Inverness passiamo la collina delle fate. Ci fermiamo a vedere la cattedrale e la vecchia chiesa alta e oltrepassiamo il castello di Inverness e la statua di Flora Macdonald prima di recarci a Clava Cairns e pranzare al castello di Cawdor prima di concludere il nostro tour al campo di battaglia di Culloden.

Itinerario
Beauly Priory è attualmente chiuso a causa dei recenti forti venti che hanno causato la caduta delle murature, non sappiamo ancora quando riaprirà. Visiteremo ancora Beauly dove potrai vederlo dal cancello. Il Priorato di Beauly fu fondato nel XIII secolo come monastero per l'ordine dei monaci Valliscauliani di Digione in Francia, le forze di Oliver Cromwell furono responsabili della distruzione del Priorato nel XVI secolo. Per secoli questo è stato un luogo di sepoltura per i capi del clan Fraser e Mackenzie e le loro famiglie. La loro è una connessione con Outlander perché è stato qui che Claire ha incontrato il Veggente.
Il castello di Urquhart si trova su un promontorio che si protende verso Loch Ness ed è stato combattuto molte volte nel corso degli anni. I panorami di Loch Ness dal castello sono fantastici e durante la visita puoi andare ad esplorare le rovine di questo castello di 1000 anni e puoi scendere al lato dell'acqua di Loch Ness. Tieni gli occhi aperti nel caso in cui Nessie faccia la sua comparsa.
La battaglia di Culloden nel 1746 fu l'ultima battaglia combattuta sul suolo britannico. Visita il Museo e camminiamo per le aree principali del campo di battaglia dove si sono svolti i combattimenti più pesanti, vedrai il tumulo commemorativo, il pozzo dei morti e le lapidi dei clan, nonché il cottage di Leanach. Questa visita è in cima alla lista per i fan di Outlander.
Visiteremo Clava Cairns e potrai entrare in 2 dei 3 Cairns, questo cimitero dell'età del bronzo di 4000 anni è il luogo in cui Diana Gabaldon ha preso ispirazione per la sua serie di Outlander e vedrai la pietra spaccata e i cerchi di pietre intorno ai Cairns.
Una delle strade più antiche di Inverness è Church street e il primo posto che vediamo è la libreria Leakeys, questo era un ospedale governativo dopo la battaglia di Culloden.
Dietro la libreria Leakeys si trova la Old High Church / St Stephens dove furono portati i prigionieri giacobiti dopo la battaglia di Culloden, puoi ancora vedere i fori dei moschetti nel muro della chiesa dove furono giustiziati i prigionieri giacobiti. Guardando oltre il fiume dal cimitero vedremo Balnain House che era anche un ospedale governativo dopo Culloden e la chiesa di St Mary che ha collegamenti con Outlander.
Proseguendo lungo Church street, passiamo davanti ad Abertarff House. Questa è la casa più antica di Inverness e un tempo era la residenza cittadina dei Fraser Chiefs.
Il castello di Cawdor riapre il 27 aprile 2024 Il castello di Cawdor con i suoi collegamenti con Macbeth è uno dei pochi castelli nell'area delle Highland che non è stato influenzato dalle rivolte giacobite. Sede dei Thanes di Cawdor per secoli, puoi visitare il castello e visitare i magnifici giardini e incontrare la contessa vedova di Cawdor che vive ancora nel castello.

Amazing experience with this Highland Tour exceeded all of our expectations. Our drivers were kind, helpful, and brought us lots of snacks and waters. They recommended different family friendly places. Farm Ness is a must do for families. Thank you for a great day in the Highlands.

We had a wonderful tour with Billy. He was so knowledgeable and fun, we even had some silly requests like hitting golf ball and petting a coo (cow). He was able to do everything.

I had a lovely day with Lawrence! Everything was smooth and taken care of all day. He worked with me ahead of time & let me customize the tour a little bit. It was my birthday and I wanted to see some hairy coos and he came through! Seeing Loch Ness & the castle was wonderful, we did that first so we beat the crowds a bit. We saw Beauly Priory, Culloden Battlefield & Clava Cairns. We stopped for lunch at a cute little cafe & it was great. He was nice to talk to and I had a great time. Would definitely recommend & will use again when I return! Wishing I had booked a Whiskey tour too!

Super good guide! We loved the trip to Loch Ness with the castle. The guide knew some quieter areas around Loch Ness and knew a lot about the history of the clans and Scotland as well as the local area. We could plan our trip individually with the guide, who was good at making it fit with time. Can definitely be recommended.

Our tour guide, Bill, was so knowledgeable and interesting. He shared a lot of great information and history. Bill was so kind and went out of his way to find opportunities for pictures with the hairy coos. When it started to rain, he made sure we had rain jackets. Absolutely outstanding tour and guide!

Shamus was a great tour guide and customized our tour to enable us to see as much as possible in the short time we had available for our shore excursion.
We had an incredible day touring with Kevin, whose expertise, professionalism, and humor made the experience truly unforgettable. From the very start, he made us feel welcome and somehow managed to tailor the itinerary perfectly to our interests; all without being the slightest bit pushy or rushed. His ability to read the group and pace the day just right was impressive. The tour included a fantastic variety of stops: Highland cows at Robinsons Farm, whiskey tastings at Glen Ord and Urquhart Castle, tartan weaving at James Pringle Weavers, gift shopping at Holm Mills, a scenic drive through Inverness, the atmospheric Clava Cairns (complete with Harry Potter and Outlander lore), and the moving Culloden Battlefield. At every stop, Kevin shared fascinating stories and historical insights that brought each location to life. Throughout the day, Kevin kept us comfortable and entertained; his clean, well-stocked vehicle (ice-cold water and chocolates were a lovely touch), responsible driving, and great conversation made the time fly by. His mix of knowledge, charm, and humor made for one of the best tours we’ve ever taken. We can’t recommend him highly enough!

Billy our guide was excellent. He had extensive historical knowledge and presented it in an entertaining manner. He was very considerate and extremely helpful. We unfortunately had an interruption in our planned itinerary due to a major road closure due to an accident. Billy found alternate routes and managed to get us to all sites detailed in advertisement. Definitely would recommend him to other travelers.
