I came from Norway to Iceland with a wish. Fishing with fly and getting arctic rye. Guide Mikael laid perfectly fit. Picked me up at the apartment and drove directly to the river. Vaders and equipment were quickly taken on, mounted, and it did not take long before the fish began to bite. Mikael was great to talk to in the car, very nice, and I learned a lot about Iceland in general, and especially about fly fishing locally in Iceland. Recommended on the warmest.

Had a really nice trip. Booked with Mikael with the goal of catching my first Arctic Char. As it was May 4, I knew we were early in the season but hoped the char might be moving up from the big lake into the River and into the smaller lake. So, picked the Holaa river and Lake Laugarvatn as it was the most likely spot for Arctic Char. My guide Mike picked me up at 7:30am and we headed out. Picked up some lunch and then we’re on our way. Weather was cold (2 degrees centigrade) with some ice in the trails. Windy but sunny and no rain! Mike picked out streamers as it has been a late winter and we were too early for nymphs or dries and certainly a heavy streamer is easier to cast in wind. We started out on the river where it enters the lake and caught a beautiful brown trout with a brightly colored yellow belly. Probably about 2lbs. Worked our way down river swing drifting streamers. Mike showed me some tips for fishing streamers and stripping more aggressively than I was accustomed to with dry flies and he hooked fish as a testimony to his techniques! I subsequently caught several more beautiful brown trout and did hook a char with a bright Orange belly who threw the fly as he jumped. Also spotted a char holding in place but couldn’t get him to take. Fished several turns in the river for 4-5 hours and then worked our way back to the car for lunch. Mike said we were more likely to pickup a Char in the lake in one of his favorite bays as the Browns were outcompeting them in the river, he felt the char would be in the lake. He warmed his hands up in the car but I was so excited that I stayed outside and didnt register the cold. He suggested I wade out from shore at the edge of a small bay and cast out with the wind or perpendicular and strip the streamer back to me. Low and behold I hooked a nice char and brought him to net! He was more grey in color than the one who flashed Orange earlier but was absolutely beautiful and I was so grateful for Mikes expertise in bringing me success in my quest to catch a chat along with quite a number of bright colored brown trout. I will take his streamer fishing tips with me along with the great conversation and beautiful ice covered Mountain View’s from a tundra meadow and beautiful river and lake.

I contacted Mikael at Go Fishing Iceland after my first booking fell through. He stepped right up with some great ideas, and arranged a day for me (Oct 5) on the Leira River, which turned out to be a beautiful little river, easily fished from the bank or with a bit of wading. I knew the season was late and was hoping more than expecting that we might get into a salmon or two, or some sea trout. I also asked if my non-fishing wife could tag along to observe, and Mikael readily agreed, and to outfit her with waders as well. Mike picked us up in Reykjavik, in the pouring rain, and after driving less than an hour we arrived (in the pouring rain!). The Leira features a small cabin, and we were able to get out of the weather to get set up. It was obvious from the start that the wind and the rain were going to be an issue, and they were. It let up around lunchtime, and we had some peek-a-boo sun in the afternoon, but the river conditions just got worse all day--water rising, getting muddy, moss washed into the current and regularly fouling the flies. Despite the low percentage conditions, Mike stuck with it, maintained hope and worked hard to find a fly that might show well in the murky water. We did see a couple fish roll. I finally hooked a small sea trout at the end of the day, Just as Mike said I would when I fished tghe pool a certain way. While I might have wished for more fish, especially in the conditions I couldn't have hoped for a better guide or a more meaningful experience. Kudos all around.

Our guide was so Friendly and helpful. It was very windy and cold out that day but he was still Able to get my husband catching fish!! It was a great day of fishing!

had a great time, our guide was a character and we had so much fun fishing with him. I love the ease of the self guided trips and maps as well, would love to see the show areas to fish sea run browns in the ocean in the future. 10/10 experience. there are some massive fish on that island! TIGHT LINES!

We had a great guide (Stefan) who took us hunting for Arctic char in the Deep River. It was a great day, and we had a great time sight casting to several large char.

Had a great day on the water on the Hola river with one of the best guides I've ever been out with Stefan Jones was amazing. Patient, efficient and funny. He picked me up at my hotel in Reykjavik exactly when he said he would and dropped me off at the cruise ship port at the end of the day. We caught beautiful arctic char and hooked a huge brown trout. Communication with Go Fishing Island was very easy and clear. Would highly recommend them to newer anglers and experienced ones. Thanks again guys for giving me a great start to my Iceland adventure.

We had a really cool day at the lake, where Mikael from GoFishing guided us. He is super friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful. With his great knowledge of fishing he gave us plenty of good tips and tricks. The fishing was at the top, and the atmosphere was in a special class. We can only warmly recommend both GoFishing and Mikael to anyone who wants to have a good experience with the fishing rod in hand. We are already looking forward to the next trip, where Highland awaits – and we are sure that Mikael will be the perfect guide again!
