I chose to have a more local tour than a touristy one and so the guide took me to local areas and markets. He explained to me how things work and he took my to try on some local food samples. It was brief yet was informative. I recommend.
Oscar was kind, patient, sincere and knowledgeable. Very kind to my children. It was a wonderful way to get to know the city.
It was my first time in Oaxaca and this tour gave me strong foundation to understand the rich history and culture. She discussed famous landmarks and architecture, notable leaders, food, as well as Zapotec and Mixtec culture. Elizabeth was knowledgeable and shared details that showed she was proud of her city. We later visited the San Pablo center which turned out to be a peaceful refuge from our sight-seeing. At times it was hard to hear her. To be fair, there was a large event going on by the church and it was very loud in general, but I would suggest she either step away to a quieter spot or talk much louder. Thanks for this free and educational tour!
I had a great time at the free walking tour! Jacob was an incredible good guide, very knowledgeable, and his English was also excellent. Plus, I like how he seems to be very much himself, relaxed and very friendly, and not out to please the people on the tour with jokes like some guides tend to do. We had loads of questions about the city, it’s people and history, and he knew the answer to all of them. Really a nice and valuable introduction to this beautiful city. Please tip generously 🙏🏽
The guide we had, Hugo, really trained, instructed us about the history of the city, its people, the buildings,... A 10
I love walking tours as you get to learn a bit of history and check out cool spots you might not find on your own. And it’s a nice way to meet people if you’re travelling solo. Did the tour on Sat 16/11/19 and our guide (Jacob?) was awesome. He said he tends to get carried away and his boss hates him cos he gives a longer tour than the standard 2 hours haha! He was very knowledgeable, I have no idea how you remember all that history! He checked in to see if we needed to leave at anytime, let us know where bathrooms were, made sure we didn’t get lost/left behind. And he didn’t push us to buy anything and gave us space to check out things that we were interested in, like stopping to watch a wedding callejoneada (parade). Our tour highlighted churches, museums, the theatre and food ranging from street to nice restaurants. I loved the organic market he took us to. I went back the next day. I’d recommend this if you’re interested in learning about history/food/culture in Oaxaca any time during your stay! :)
We really enjoyed our two+ hour tour with our guide. She was so knowledgeable and shared information we wouldn’t have received elsewhere. We find that the young people that are the ‘free’ tour guides are the most passionate about their jobs and love sharing their city with tourists. I only would like to pass on to those that take these ‘free’ tours that tips are the way these young guides make money... I noticed so many people in my group just say thank you and walk away....please do not forget to say thank you with a tip. The tour you just took would cost a minimum of $10.00 per person if you paid upfront! If you don’t come from a tipping culture country then consider it a gift to the person that just spent over two hours with you filling you with information and watching out for your safety as well.
We arrived on the earliest flight to Mexico City and then joined the morning tour. It was my first time in Oaxaca, but I was able to go around slowly, so I knew what the town was like. In the afternoon, we were free to walk around with peace of mind. Even though it's free, it's polite for each of us to tip at the end.
Really enjoyed this 2.5 hour experience. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and unlike many tour guides, he didn't have a script. Most of what he presented came from his own research and his natural curiosity about all things Oaxaca and Mexico. I plan on doing this walk again!
Dear Client You are also a gem to us! And you are more than welcome to join this tour again or any other that we offer here or in many cities in Mexico!! Free Walking Tour Mexico
I had Gesenia as my guide - I was so lucky! Lovely person and a most knowledgeable guide. This was a great tour, seeing places and things I would never have found on my own. This is a ‘must do’ way to start your time in Oaxaca. I’ve been telling people who have already been in the city for two weeks about the off the beaten track places I was taken to. They were both surprised and impressed and now want to see them too.
Dear client! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the world!! Please make sure to visit all of our tours in Mexico where we have guides as motivated as Gesenia!! Look always for the pink umbrella Free Walking Tour Mexico
