Good communication and well organized city tour, started and finished on time. Oumar and the driver were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the tour very much.
Omar is a wonderful guide. He is very knowledgeable about Dakar, Senegal and West Africa. His English is superb so he is easy to understand and he provides interesting insights into the political and cultural aspects of the region now and in the past. The itinerary for this half-day city tour is excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour and hope you are lucky enough to get Omar as your guide.
Oumar is just wonderful overall. He’s knowledgeable about Senegal and surrounding countries, and is passionate about being a tour guide. As a young female solo traveler, I feel completely safe and secure with him. He speaks perfect English, French as well as local languages. He’s become my go to guide for all things Senegal and I often use his services when I’m in Senegal. As always, many thanks Oumar. Until next time!
Oumar was an excellent guide and would highly recommend, when visiting Dakar! Saw so much, learned quite a bit, as well
We spent an hour trying to find the guide as he was not there when we left the ship. Very mediocre trip and we would have been better finding a guide on our own.
1 Place de l'independance 10 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - it is a square / little park open to the public , the fountain didn't work. We were there about 2 minutes. Presidential Palace (Pass By) - we did, saw one guard in a flash. 2 Cathedrale du Souvenir Africain de Dakar 20 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - nice stop, free entry, around 10 minutes. 3 Grand Mosque of Dakar One of the few mosques in Dakar open to non-Moslems for a visit. 15 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - We did not go to this mosque (no idea why not). 4 Universite Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) 20 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - We did not pass by or go to the university at all. (!) 5 Mosque of the Divinity 10 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - We stopped high up on the road, for 1 minute, the guide told me that it is not possible to go in. (admission ticket free???) 6 African Renaissance Monument 30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - They made me pay 10.000 francs at the entry! 7 Market Soumbedioune The largest arts and crafts market. 30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free - We did not visit this market, they took me to the Kermel Market, we walked through in 5 minutes and that was the end of the tour. So, I did see some things I wanted to see, but the excursion is not at all as described and paid for. When I mentioned after almost 2 hours on the way that the excursion included "bottled water", the guide got angry and called his boss.
Oumar was great - very knowledgeable and a fun tour guide. Flexible with our schedule. Definitely recommend both his company and this half day tour of Dakar that hit all the highlights in the limited time we had available!
We took the tour to be able to see as much of Dakar as possible during our short stay. Pape was a excellent guide and Ali was a safe and kind driver. We have had interesting, informative and very well guided and organised tour. Recommend wholeheartedly.
We met Oumar for a half day private tour AFTER we had already taken a couple of other tours around the city / area. We were on a short time line of a few days so we wanted to see and experience all we could. I have to say that even after experiencing a couple of very good excursions in my opinion, Oumar and Senegal Odyssey Tours was BY FAR the most informed and informative, the most engaging and intuitive, the most concerned in terms of protecting my interest than any other excursion guides. I do not say this to imply that the others were less than deserving because they were not. We were highly pleased and appreciative with all the excursions that we experienced. What I am saying is that Oumar and his company was head and shoulders above all the others. By the time we met Oumar for our excursion we had already seen the highlights so we had a specific agenda in mind and not just the basic tour. Oumar quickly adjusted to our requests by taking us to local markets usually not experienced by casual travelers and aggressively protecting our interest in local negotiations. There was never any concern for our welfare in this back and forth. Just that having intimate knowledge of customs and techniques, he was able to always steer us to the right deal with vendors. If you have been to Dakar you know that this negotiation is a cherished tradition and sport and it takes a very knowledgeable person to get the best out of it. Even though we were looking at a custom agenda we did revisit some of the standard site seeing destinations where Oumar's knowledge and perspective were showcased as well above and beyond the norm. We learned twice the knowledge and understanding of previous tours and, as I said, they were all good in our opinion. I am pleased to highly recommend Senegal Odyssey Tours and Oumar as BY FAR the best and most knowledgeable excursion vendor in Dakar, Senegal. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Oumar for your skill, knowledge and friendship.
Wow!!! What else can I say? When booking with VIATOR, that's what you get. You get what you sign up for and more than what you expect. Felt like a retirement speech. I enjoyed being the * Expert guide by your side* to show you the best that Dakar has to offer. This one-of-a-kind review left me in the AWE. I am glad you enjoyed your time with me. It was a true pleasure to show you and your wife around this beautiful historical city that I have learned to love as one learns to love a beautiful yet wilfully woman. My detailed-oriented tours mean I show parts of Dakar that don't make the usual tours and I enjoy telling stories that add a dimension to what people see.
