Fort De Soto Park ha una posizione unica nel Golfo del Messico, che lo rende uno dei migliori siti di birdwatching nello stato della Florida. È particolarmente vario nei mesi di aprile e ottobre per la migrazione primaverile e autunnale. Questo pezzo di terra è la prima area in cui arriveranno gli uccelli mentre effettuano il loro volo migratorio attraverso il golfo. Non solo vedrai uccelli costieri, trampolieri e specie di uccelli canori residenti, ma vedrai migranti neotropicali e passeranno attraverso il nostro stato nel loro viaggio da/per i Caraibi e l'America Centrale. Come per il resto dell'anno, puoi contare su anatre e svassi se prenoti il tuo tour nei mesi invernali e allevando specie di uccelli in estate. Questa zona è nota anche per specie rare e vagabondi che attraversano la Florida. I fotografi adoreranno l'illuminazione mattutina sulla spiaggia mentre i piccoli uccelli costieri si nutrono di cibo nella fila di rastrelliere.

Itinerario
Faremo un tour di birdwatching di 5 ore al Fort De Soto Park. Guideremo fino a ogni fermata all'interno del parco, quindi usciremo e faremo un'escursione in diversi habitat tra cui foresta, spiaggia e area picnic sull'erba. C'è anche un'area pavimentata intorno al forte stesso. A partire dalla spiaggia della costa nord all'alba, dovremmo vedere molti uccelli costieri, ad esempio Piping Plover, Snowy Plover, American Oystercatcher, Reddish Egret e Marbled Pittima per citarne alcuni. Ci sposteremo quindi nell'area del forte stesso per controllare la spiaggia per Common Loon, Whimbrel e Red-breasted Merganser. L'area boschiva adiacente al forte è un hotspot per gli uccelli canori migratori, in particolare i warblers. La casa dei ranger e il sentiero escursionistico di solito vantano i migliori uccelli canori del parco. Ci fermeremo qui e cercheremo il Grosbeak dal petto rosa, il tanager estivo e scarlatto, i warblers, i zigoli e i vireos che sono attratti dalle fontane di acqua dolce e dai gelsi. Finiremo con una sosta a East Beach per vedere i parrocchetti di Nanday.

You will be doing a lot of walking. I had a great time. Was hoping for the oyster catcher but its ok. Just had a great time walking and bird spotting with Rebecca. It was a fantastic trip.
