Jaime was prompt, knowledgeable, and gracious. Touring with him was like seeing the city with family. We learned about the history of the city, heard some wonderful stories, saw beautiful art, the newer strategies to support the local economy.
Thank you for your comment; when we do things with care, that comes through to our guests. It was a pleasure to assist you.
We traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador, as part of a Linbladt National Geographic Expedition. Arriving two days earlier and looking for a tour of Guayaquil. At Hotel Oro Verde, Juan Pablo recommended a local tour guide (Banana tours). I highly recommend Juan Pablo. He set up a tour for two of us senior females. A half day tour of the city of Guayaquil plus a tour of a cacao farm. Chocolate is big business in Ecuador, and the Mango and Cacao farm is locally owned. The farmer and his family run the farm and they gave us a tour from plant to chocolate bar. We were able to buy the bars produced in the farm to bring home to the US. Contact Juan Pablo at Hotel Oro Verde in Guayaquil. Guayaquil was under a security alert in December 2024. Thus, It was important to feel and be safe.
This tour is a great introduction to the city. Our tour guide met us at the hotel on time and provided us with a map of the city to show us where we would visit during our 3 days together, as well as recommendations for additional visits on our own. With a private bus, we easily traversed the city, stopping at different points of interest to walk and take in the history and culture. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to explore many sites, such as museums, as we only had 3 hours together, but it gave us ideas of where to return at a later date. All in all, a good overview for a first-time visitor.
Dear Stefanie, Thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad you enjoyed the tour. It's wonderful to hear that our tour guide provided helpful recommendations. We understand the time constraint but hope it inspired future visits to explore more. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for further exploration soon!
I had a day layover in Guayaquil, so booked the 3 hour tour. Jaime was excellent. His English was good. He was smart, knowledgeable and patient. He's a retired pilot and now an artist by hobby. He took us to notable paintings in the museum and to sculptures outdoors. Naturally, we also visited a beautiful cathedral, an old neighborhood, and the famous Iguana Park.
Hello dear Knygard, Thank you for choosing our 3-hour tour during your layover in Guayaquil. We're delighted to hear that Jaime provided you with an excellent and informative experience. If you ever have the chance to visit again, we'd be happy to show you more of the city's attractions.
Saw some beautiful parts of the city. The estuary and birds were nice. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed walking down the Malecón.

I needed something of a customized tour to accommodate a short layover. Viator arranged Corina, who was a fabulous tour guide, passionate about her city and adjusted our itinerary to make sure I was able to make a few purchases and still get back to the airport on time. I've now used Viator on three different continents and good experience in all cases.
Hello Tom! It was our pleasure to show you the city, Corina is one of our amazing tour guides :)) Thank you for booking with us!
I use Viator all the time. This is the first time it went wrong. I booked a private tour because I have mobility issues and want to be able to ensure I can navigate the tour. Just before the tour was scheduled, the tour guide decided to change it from a private tour to a semi private tour. The morning of the tour, my leg was hurting and my wife and I decided not to go on it. I guess the tour guide won but I will think twice about using Viator next time.
Hello William, we hope you are having a good day. Our main goal is the safety and well being of our passengers, we are always looking for good communication with our clients. On March 15th, a little more than a week before your city tour, we texted you about the modality change from private to shared, to which you replied with questions about the modification reason, we replied right away and explained + notified about the extra that had to be paid for the pick up at the port, since it's far away from the city (which is usually a different fare, but since the modality was changing it was more economic now). After our conversation through Viator's chat you agreed to do doing the tour with us: "OK, we are happy to be on your tour." , so we proceeded to reconfirm everything with you and our tour guide. You told us you were downloading the voucher, and everything was good to go! The day of the tour, our tour guide called us to let us know that you 2 were the only ones missing. We tried to contact you through chat + calling, and we didn't receive any reply. Our tour guide waited for you for 30 minutes, making our other passengers wait that amount of time as well until the tour could start. After those 30 minutes passed, we talked with our tour guide and told them to send us a picture prooving that he was there waiting for you and to go ahead and start the tour. He sent us the picture right away, and he was waiting for you right outside the port, just like we had indicated you. About an hour later we recieved a message from you telling us that you decided not to take the tour, because we changed the modality "last minute" which was not true, since you agreed to it a week before. If you didn't want to take the tour with us from the beginning, the cancellation was possible until 24 hours before the tour. Hopefully you have a great rest of your trip!
We were impressed with our guide's, Corina, knowledge of the city and her English skills. Plus, the fact she self-taught herself in a total of three languages. We enjoyed our tour and gave us a good layout of the city. We felt very safe.
Hi Lorraine! Guayaquil is a beautiful city and we are so happy you got to visit us. We hope to see you again soon!
The best part of our experience was sour tour guide Walter. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about all things Quayaqui. History, politics, weather. I could go on and on. He had a lovely helpful personality and was a pleasure to listen to and ask questions of. Really the best tout I have ever been on.
Hi Shellie! We are so happy you enjoyed this tour with us :) Walter is indeed amazing and knows a lot about our city. We hope to see you again soon!
Eddie is an great guide, so enthusiastic to share everything about Guayaquil, the modern, historical, must-see sights and other insights about life in Guayaquil and Ecuador . Highly recommended.
