Il Golfo di Corinto nel Mar Ionio è collegato dal Canale di Corinto. Divide il Peloponneso dalla Grecia continentale tagliando il piccolo Istmo di Corinto, trasformando così la penisola in un'isola. Senza chiuse, il canale è stato scavato attraverso l'istmo a livello del mare. Molte navi moderne non possono attraversarlo poiché è largo appena 21,4 metri (70 piedi) alla base e lungo 6,4 chilometri (4 km). La vista dell'istmo di Corinto è migliore dall'alto, dove puoi anche ammirare le pareti calcaree a strapiombo della città e guardare le barche che navigano nel canale sottostante.
Olimpia era un luogo sacro che attraeva fedeli da tutto il mondo antico. A partire dall'VIII secolo a.C., le celebrazioni religiose a Olimpia divennero associate alla Sacra Tregua Olimpica, onorata in tutto il mondo greco in seguito a un accordo tra lo spartano Licurgo e il re di Elide, Ifito. Nel V secolo a.C., Olimpia divenne un luogo in cui si diffondevano idee, con decine di pensatori e individui influenti che venivano qui per scambiare e trasmettere le loro conoscenze e idee.
Il Museo archeologico di Olimpia è uno dei principali musei della Grecia, situato a Olimpia. È supervisionato dal Ministero della cultura e dello sport e, dal 2009, è diretto da Georgia Chatzi. Quando l'edificio originale fu completato e inaugurato nel 1882, fu il primo museo in Grecia al di fuori di Atene. Il museo ospita scoperte provenienti dall'area circostante, tra cui il sito degli antichi giochi olimpici. La collezione comprende oggetti prodotti e utilizzati nell'area dalla preistoria al periodo sotto il dominio romano. I pezzi principali del museo sono Hermes e il Dioniso bambino (attribuiti a Prassitele), alcuni oggetti del Tempio di Zeus, la Nike di Paionios e un'oinochoe appartenuta a Fidia. L'estensione della sua collezione di bronzi lo rende uno dei più importanti al mondo.
Il sito archeologico ospitava oltre 70 edifici significativi e le rovine di molti di questi sopravvivono. Di particolare interesse per i Greci di tutti i tempi è il Pelopion, la tomba del re quasi mitico, antenato degli Atridi, i due re che guidarono i loro domini in guerra contro Troia. Il Peloponneso prende il nome da Pelope. La tomba suggerisce che potrebbe non essere stato del tutto mitico.

Yiannis was an amazing guide/driver, we had a great time and the drive to Olympia so really didn't feel long. Both, Corinth Channel and Olympia are worth seeing. The Corinth Canal is a very brief stop but it is worth seeing how deep of a canal was built. Pretty impressive. Ancient Olympia has a very nice museum and ruins of the Olympic village. There was less in the Olympic Village than we expected but it was worth going to as you can still see the outlines of the buildings and the race track.
