Quando visiti Stone Town, non puoi perderti l'Old Fort. La sua storia racconta in poche parole la storia di Zanzibar. Old Fort è uno degli edifici più antichi di Stone Town, prima utilizzato dai portoghesi, poi trasformato in un forte arabo, quindi utilizzato come stazione ferroviaria di Zanzibar e ora come centro culturale di Stone Town ospita festival come Sauti za Busara e Zanzibar International Film Feste Originariamente costruito dai portoghesi nel 17° secolo e successivamente ricostruito dagli omaniti nel 18° secolo. La visita è gratuita e spesso vengono organizzati festival e manifestazioni culturali nelle corti interne del forte.
La Chiesa anglicana della Cattedrale di Cristo è stata costruita a Stone Town (la parte vecchia della città di Zanzibar) nel luogo in cui operava il più grande mercato di schiavi dell'Africa orientale All'esterno della Cattedrale si trova un monumento in pietra raffigurante quattro persone incatenate per il collo per riprodurre il modo in cui gli schiavi venivano offerti ai compratori. Il commercio degli schiavi era l'attività principale e collegava commercialmente gli europei (che usavano gli schiavi per le piantagioni nell'Oceano Indiano) con i governanti africani. Nel 19° secolo, il Sultanato di Zanzibar si distinse per essere il principale mercato degli schiavi nell'Africa orientale grazie alla sua posizione strategica nell'Oceano Indiano. Si stima che tra il 1830 e il 1873 circa 600.000 persone furono vendute come merce e migliaia di altre persone visitarono temporaneamente il luogo.
È un importante edificio storico situato nella zona Baghani di Stone Town, Zanzibar. Fu costruito dai missionari francesi tra il 1893 e il 1898 e i progetti furono disegnati dallo stesso architetto francese che progettò la cattedrale a Marsiglia, in Francia. La caratteristica distintiva della cattedrale sono le sue guglie gemelle (simili a quelle della chiesa di Marsiglia) che sono elementi di spicco dello skyline di Stone Town e possono essere facilmente individuate a distanza al largo della costa. L'interno della cattedrale è dipinto con affreschi dell'Antico Testamento. Le piastrelle e le vetrate sono state tutte importate dalla Francia. La cattedrale è regolarmente utilizzata dalla comunità cattolica di Stone Town. Ci sono diverse messe che si tengono ogni domenica e occasionalmente nei giorni feriali.

Excellent tour around Stone Town with a lot of details of the history of the place. Our guide was knowledgeable and with a warm personality.
Insightful 3-hours with Osman (guide) to learn more about the history of stone town. Started with a former slave market (great exhibition there! Must do!) then went to the main market and passed by the fish section (interesting experience), passed by Freddy M museum, bought some spices on the way and finished up with a bite at the night market. Private tours are always best! Really enjoyed all the experience! Highly recommend! For those who prefer to spend morning / day at the beach and have a nice walk later in the afternoon (tour started at 4:30 PM and we finished around 8PM!)! Ideal!

We did the stone town and prison island tour. We had our guide Mohammed who was amazing and out driver Khalid. We were able to tailor our tour to see what we wanted in Stone town and had time to do shopping. The whole day was at our pace and to our needs. Took us to an amazing lunch spot. Really knowledgeable. Super tour and service from Coastline again. My 3rd tour with them. Would highly recommend.

This was such an amazing tour! Ousmane was so knowledgeable and provided us with a lot of historical background and fun facts throughout the tour. It is totally worth your time especially if this is your first time visiting Zanzibar. We highly recommend it!
Osman is a great guy, very knowledgeable and the 3 hours flew by! There's a lot to see and information to take in but I definitely learnt a lot today! I would definitely recommend this tour, it was a lovely morning and helped my understanding of the island a lot.
I went on a walking tour of Stone Town on my first day in Zanzibar. Said was very knowledgable about the city and excited to share everything he knew with me. He customized the trip based on my interest and dropped me off at the restaurant where my friends were waiting at the end. Stone Town is confusing and twisty-turny but Said knows that city so well. Said was also the guide for my friend and I at Jozani National Forest. I think he knows every plant in the forest. All of the various guides at the forest help each other out so we found the monkeys in no time. Said even spotted an elephant shrew. He is a joy to be around and a great guide.
An excellent guide, top quality Service, Said knows very well the history of Tanzania very invested in his work! We had to do three hours we finally spent all afternoon and much of the evening with him. It is pleasant to listen! I recommend it for your activities! He is attentive and attentive but above all very good advice
