Tour of Perugino (Città della Pieve) & Trasimeno Lake from Rome

Descrizione
Città della Pieve is a picturesque medieval town in Umbria, Italy, perched on a hill with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Known for its narrow streets and brick architecture, it exudes historical charm. Highlights include the Cathedral of Saints Gervasius and Protasius and works by the Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino, who was born here. Its vibrant festivals, like the Palio dei Terzieri, celebrate the town’s rich traditions and history. Panicale, another charming hilltop village nearby, offers a serene atmosphere with its medieval walls, cobblestone streets, and panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno. Its highlights include the Church of San Sebastiano, featuring frescoes by Perugino, and the historic Piazza Umberto I. The Battle of Lake Trasimene was fought when a Carthaginian force under Hannibal Barca ambushed a Roman army commanded by Gaius Flaminius on 21 June 217 BC, during the Second Punic War.

The Church of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, formerly the Oratory of the Disciplinati, is located in the heart of Città della Pieve's historic center and is one of the city's three parishes.
The Church of San Sebastiano in Panicale was built at the end of the 15th century by the community of the castle, next to a hospital dedicated to treating plague victims—a lazaretto—and a cemetery for the burial of plague victims
The principal place of worship of Città della Pieve, Umbria, Italy. It is dedicated to Saints Gervasius and Protasius. Formerly the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Città della Pieve, since 1986 it has been the co-cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve.
The town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno is known because one of the most famous battles of antiquity was held here on June 21, 217 BC: the Battle of Trasimeno, which took place in the hills around the lake and pitted the Roman army led by Caius Flaminius against the Carthaginian army under the command of Hannibal
