The trip was good. The coordinator who met us at the dock was prompt and engaging. Our boat driver was very hospitable and took us to a swimming cove. We then took a tour of a small island and had some free time to enjoy a bite at a cafe. After that we went to a home to try olive oil and anchovies which were produced by a small proprietor. While very interesting, it was in fact a sales pitch to purchase anchovies, wine, and olive oil, so just know that going in. It was not a hard pitch but certainly designed to drive product sales and like I said....it was interesting. We had a tight window to make it back to our cruise ship after the tour and I was grateful that Antonio ensured we were back in time.
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Beautiful Islands, Great Guides, But Watch the Time! We had a wonderful afternoon exploring the islands around Zadar on our speedboat tour. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with beautiful scenery, excellent guides, and plenty of opportunities to swim, explore, and learn about the local culture. The tour began right from the Zadar docks, where we met our friendly guides and headed out on a comfortable speedboat. Our first stop was the famous Sea Organ, where we learned how this incredible architectural instrument works and enjoyed listening to the magical sounds created by the waves. Next, we visited Ošljak Island, the smallest inhabited island in Croatia. This ended up being one of our favorite stops. We enjoyed walking around the island, learning about its fascinating history, seeing the old windmill ruins, local homes, and even hearing about the monks who once lived there. The crystal-clear water also made for a refreshing swim. We then continued to Galevac Island before heading to the charming village of Preko on Ugljan Island. This was another beautiful stop, with lovely medieval architecture, quaint shops, cafés, and homemade ice cream. Several of us also took advantage of another swim in the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea. The complimentary snorkeling equipment was a wonderful bonus and made the experience even more enjoyable. The last stop was visiting a local fisherman's family, where we sampled delicious organic products, fresh seafood, excellent olive oil, and regional wine while learning about traditional preparation methods. A bot of a tourist trap, but we still enjoyed it. It was a wonderful way to experience authentic Croatian hospitality. Our guides were outstanding throughout the tour, and our boat captain did a fantastic job navigating the islands while making the ride both fun and safe. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about sharing their beautiful region. There were only two drawbacks. The final stop required walking up a fairly long, steep street, which proved challenging for several people in our large group....my father who is 80 and my daughter who is three. If you have mobility concerns, or young ones, it's something to be aware of. The much bigger issue, however, was the timing. The tour was advertised as lasting four hours, but it ended up running almost 45 minutes longer. Since we were visiting from a cruise ship, this created an extremely stressful ending. We were literally racing back to the ship and made it aboard with almost no time to spare. The ship even called us concerned as they were about to leave. I have been on 10+ cruises and have never had this situation occur before. We even asked if the boat could please drop us closer to the cruise terminal to save time, but the guides/driver unfortunately said that wasn't possible so we had to race to find cabs back to the port and run to our ship. (We had read in previous reviews they accommodated others with this request) Fortunately, we made it—but just barely. Despite that stressful finish, we truly enjoyed the tour and would absolutely recommend it. If you're visiting by cruise ship, just keep a close eye on the time and build in a little extra cushion if possible. With better time management, this easily could have been a five-star experience. Overall, this is a beautiful way to experience the islands around Zadar, with great guides, stunning scenery, refreshing swims, and a genuine taste of Croatian island life.
Thank you for your detailed review and for choosing our speedboat tour! We're truly glad you had a wonderful time overall — the beautiful islands, swims, guides, and the local experiences at the fisherman's family made it a memorable afternoon for you. We really appreciate your highlighting the friendly crew, the comfortable boat, and the highlights like Ošljak and Preko. We’re sorry the tour ran longer than expected and caused stress at the end, especially with a cruise ship departure. Here’s some context: • The main delay came from the walking portions. With a larger group that included guests of different mobility levels (including elderly and young children), moving between stops took more time than usual. • Direct boat drop-off at the cruise port is only possible when there is no Sunset cruise scheduled afterward (which unfortunately wasn’t the case on your day). • We do organize private car transfers from the meeting point back to the cruise terminal for guests who need it. This option is available when booked in advance, which helps ensure a smoother and faster return. We always recommend cruise ship guests to either book the car transfer option or build in a safety buffer, as sea conditions, group pace, and harbor traffic can sometimes affect timings. Thank you again for the honest feedback — it helps us continue improving time management and communication for future guests. We’d love to welcome you and your family back to Zadar for another island adventure under more relaxed circumstances! Safe travels, Danko ZadarTour.com
Brilliant half day enjoying the islands and testing local wine and food. Absolutely fantastic and would recommend it to anyone visiting Zadar. Or skipper was fantastic. 5 stars!!
It was a lot of fun. Iva was our captain and she was amazing. Not sure if her method of driving a speedboat from the side is recommended, but she was a pro traveling through rough waters. She is very personable and warm and I fell in love with her….jk.
Great tour and perfect guide! :)
Really nice experience, worthy of your consideration. Dominic the tour guy was really nice, the tour was on time, plenty of time to explore the islands. The boat is big enough. In general a really enjoyable experience.
Great trip. Dominic was a fantastic guide & very informative. Beautiful islands - Highly recommend 👌
Danko was wonderful with info before we even left the US. He picked us up at our ship and took us right to boat and retuned right after boat tour. Joseph was our captain and was wonderful. He also and gave us much info on the area and sites we saw. We saw and head the Sea Organ in Zadar from the boat. We then stopped for a 1/2 hour swim. Then off to out next stop where we were taken on a small wooden boat to a monastery for a tour around the island. It was beautiful and very peaceful. Had time for lunch on our own overlooking the beautiful sea. Then onto another stop to a private home for wine , oil and snacks . All locally grown, fresh and organic. Highly recommend this tour for anyone who likes to get away from the tourist and have a relaxing time with the locals.
Lovely experience! Took my partner on this tour to explore some of the islands outside of Zadar, we got to snorkel, shop, and learn a bit of history and local culture from our guide/skipper. It felt very private - just me, my partner, another traveler, and our skipper. Was super fun and relaxed. It was great to try some little local bites and wine. 10/10 that the boat had a cover to protect us from the sun.
It was a very nice excursion with a very good Price quality ratio! The stopovers were very well organized with some swimming in the clear waters and a well led tour by our guide! Finally the tasting of local products delighted the taste buds of the whole group!
