The Gateway of India è un monumento ad arco costruito all'inizio del XX secolo situato nella città di Mumbai, in India. Il monumento fu eretto per commemorare lo sbarco del primo monarca britannico in India. Dal Gateway of India, il tuo tour inizierà con un viaggio in traghetto di 1 ora verso l'isola dove si trovano le grotte di Elephanta.
Le grotte di Elephanta, patrimonio mondiale dell'UNESCO, sono una destinazione imperdibile per gli appassionati di storia o gli appassionati di archeologia che vorrebbero vedere veri scavi relativi alle antiche storie dell'India. Salirai 120 gradini fino all'altopiano in cui è possibile accedere a queste grotte. Ci sono sette scavi principali nell'area e sarai in grado di esplorare la storia dietro i manufatti e le strutture che vi si trovano. C'è una spaziosa sala sostenuta da enormi pilastri, che sono caratteristici dell'architettura del VI e VII secolo. Al suo interno si trova un'enorme scultura di Shiva a tre teste, che è una delle principali attrazioni delle grotte. Potrai esplorare 3 grotte, ognuna con una caratteristica unica: una è una grande grotta indù, l'altra è una grotta buddista e l'ultima è una grotta dedicata al dio Shiva. Great experience. The guide (Daivat) had impressive knowledge of the island and the caves. Got some lovely flash shots with the symmetry in the caves.
Had an enlightening and educational tour that gave plenty of context about the history behind the elephant temple thanks to Daivat and Azbe for a well arranged trip

Daivit was our local guide! Since he came from the island himself, he took us through the history of the island and inspired us with the symbolism of the place!
Elephanta caves are really nice to visit, our guide Dave had a lot of knowledge and was happy to share it in perfect english. It was really interesting to learn about hindu religion and life on the island. There's a lot of monkeys and cute baby monkeys but watch for your stuff. Boat ride to get there is long and a bit rocky.
