La Via del Sillar è un'immensa cava di bugnato (pietra di origine vulcanica), che forma gole spettacolari, simili a quelle di Petra in Giordania. Puoi anche vedere i petroglifi e apprezzare il modo in cui vengono estratte le pietre.

L'escursione inizierà con il ritiro dal tuo hotel ad Arequipa all'orario da te scelto. Da lì prenderemo la strada Uchumayo fino a raggiungere le cave di pietra bugnata, dove faremo una visita guidata per conoscere il lavoro degli scalpellini, un mestiere attivo fin dall'antichità. Le pietre di questa zona hanno la particolarità di poter essere lavorate solo a mano, altrimenti si romperebbero. Il lavoro degli scalpellini consiste nel scolpire la pietra fino a formare il concio che verrà poi utilizzato nelle costruzioni tipiche di questa zona del Perù. Sapevi che questo materiale proviene dalla lava dei vulcani che circondano Arequipa?
Successivamente cammineremo per mezz'ora fino alla nostra prossima destinazione, il canyon di Culebrillas, un burrone formato dalla natura stessa e dal passaggio dell'acqua. Qui faremo un percorso escursionistico tra le sue pareti rocciose alte tra i 15 e i 20 metri e potrai scattare delle splendide foto. Inoltre, potremo vedere gli antichi petroglifi, simboli rupestri incisi nella roccia il cui significato è misterioso. Dopo quattro ore di tour, torneremo al centro di Arequipa. L'escursione terminerà nei pressi di Plaza de Armas.

This trip is a waste of time. Not just this particular Sillar route trip but all similar trips because there is nothing really to see. The whole thing has been constructed for tourists: 1) you drive to the edge of the city for photos of the view surrounded by tacky souvenir stalls 2) you then drive 20 Mins into the industrial district to go to a dusty stone quarry where some isolated sculpture s have been made for tourist photos out of the soft white stone. There is not any context for them and they are a modern creation - surrounded by tacky souvenir stalls. You do not see the sculptors working. Mostly the quarry is used for cutting stone blocks for the town. 3) Next you drive down the road for a 20 minute route march “hike” following coach loads of other tourists into a small canyon, full of tourists and mosquitoes to see some stone pictures of llamas and condors which may have been created by pre Columbian people (no context as to why they would be in a small canyon in the middle of nowhere), or, you know, created / added to last week. Again the area is surrounded by tacky souvenir stalls. Save your money and time and choose a different tour. There is literally no reason for this one.
I went on a business trip and got away for the attractions of Arequipa. What a beautiful city! If you are planning to visit Arequipa, enjoy the city too ✨
I highly recommend this tour the place is amazing and full of history. The view from the city is unbelievably so beautiful and you can take lovely pictures
