What a day!! Absolutely enjoyed every minute we spent with Ram, our guide for the day. An early start meant we got to explore the Golden Temple first thing and see it shining brightly against the dark sky. We will remember this view forever! We were fortunate to see the ceremonial transfer of the holy scripture to the temple. We had hoped to take a peek at the community kitchen, however Ram went the extra mile and we had a full tour! It was too early for me but my husband ate a meal there too! The kitchen serves over 100,000 meals a day. By the time we’d finished that part of the tour, the sun has risen and we were able to appreciate the temple in the daylight. Ram gave us so much info on the Temple, the Sikh religion, Ram gave us lots of history of the Sikh religion, The Temple, The Partition of India, Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, the history of Amritsar and the region of Punjab. We went for a local breakfast of Kulcha before continuing on with the trip. Next we visited a local village & farm, hopped on a tractor and visited the fields, where it was explained about the farming methods in the local area & Punjab. It was different to what we’ve done before but thoroughly enjoyed it. We then had a delicious home cooked lunch, all using local produce. Next we set off for the drive to the Attari - Wagu border for the flag lowering ceremony. What an experience. Once the ceremony was over, Ram dropped us back to the hotel after a long but very exciting and enjoyable day. We are so glad we chose Planet Amritsar to explore the area and even more fortunate to have Ram as our guide.
Ram showed me the golden temple, jallianwala square, and the border between Pakistan and India. He taught me about the Sikhs, Amristar, and India itself. He is very wise and answered my questions masterfully. He's extremely friendly and a very good company to talk about random things as well, I hope people get the chance of knowing Amritsar with him ✌️
We had a great day. The Golden Temple is amazing and Amrit knew a lot about his country and shared a lot of information with us. I would definitely recommend this tour
Amritsar day tour and Wagah Border Ceremony. Had a fantastic tour with our guides Ram and Amrit. From start to finish the day was amazing. Both guides were a wealth of knowledge and we learnt so much on this tour. We had an amazing lunch with our guide Amrit. Both Ram and Amrit were in constant contact to keep us updated on pick up times and location, making sure the day ran smoothly. I highly recommend anyone traveling to Amritsar to do this tour.
Ram Singh did a great job of showing us Amritsar. His knowledge of the Golden Temple grounds and the Partition Museum gave us a much better appreciation of the tenets of Sikh religion and the horrors encountered by ordinary people that accompanied the creation of Pakistan and India. Watching the pomp and ceremony of the lowering of the Indian and Pakistani national flags at the border crossing, especially in a time of increased tension between the 2 countries, was both entertaining and also clear demonstration of the pride Indians and Pakistanis have in their respective countries. It was a terrific tour!
Really enjoyed this tour with a Sikh and border show. I learned so much about the history of the area, Sikhism and the relationship with India and Pakistan. A must do in Amritsar.
We are so glad we booked the tour with Amrit. Having a Sikh take you to the Golden Temple makes all the difference. Having an inside look of the temple and the amazing kitchen operation that feeds 100,000 people a day. Amrit is a noble and cool guy to spend the afternoon with. His knowledge of the partition and Sikh history was fascinating. Visiting his farm was a relaxing way to spend the afternoon (and have a delicious lunch) . I’ve often admired the Sikhs I have met and learning more about their religion, I now know why.
Highly recommended!!! Extremely knowledgeable tour guide and he took us to places on our pace. He wasn’t pushy. Amritsar and Golden Temple is a must. India Pakistani boarder and ceremony was extraordinary. Thank you
Started the tour with pick-up from my hotel before day-break, straight to the Golden Temple, before the tourists got there. Amrit, my guide, explained the correct etiquette and what it means to be a Sikh. Fascinating stuff....as a westerner I got to ask all my questions. We spent hours there, touring the kitchens (best part for me), learning the meaning of the different coloured turbans and who does what. More earnestly, we visited the memorial to the martyrs of the 1984 attack by the soviet-backed Indian army. Later we went to Amrit's family farm....what an insight into ordinary life for a Punjabi farmer, including a ride on the ricketty old tractor. His mother and sister prepared a tasty lunch which I enjoyed immensely. Then off to the border for Beating of the Retreat. Again Amrit diligently steered me to the 'foreigners area' and told me the best ways in/out. The show itself (and that's exactly what it is) is a monumental re-working of Monty Pythons ministry of silly walks sketch. Preposterous posturing towards Pakistan, but entertaining none the less. A great day. Highly recommend.
We did a two day private tour of Amritsar and the whole experience was incredible. The communication from the start was clear and our tour guide Amrit was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgable and fun. He created a bespoke tour for us covering the main sights along with hidden gems. His local knowledge made all the difference. If you’re looking for a great time in Amritsar, I would whole heartedly recommend Planet Amritsar. A local, trustworthy company whose focus is on creating the best experience!
