Went on this tour today with John as our driver. It was a great day, John was very entertaining, informative and did everything he could to make sure everyone on the coach was comfortable, happy and having a good time. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 was because of the weather. Sea fog meant we couldn't see the rope bridge and Dunluce Castle. Nothing any idy could do about it and again, John did everything he could to adjust the trip on the fly so we could see and do as much as possible. If you have the time I would recommend taking this tour. Such good value for money
Ray gave us so much info about Belfast and Northern Ireland. He was fantastic as a guide. Professional and kind.
The coach we traveled on was also used for sports teams & felt very tired , certainly not a luxury coach .The driver whilst giving a guided tour , continually told us what we were not allowed to do & what time to return in a very condescending manner. There were options for lunch ,not just the pub which felt very rushed & poor quality . Not clear why we had to stop at a Spar shop or Bushmills bar/gift shop & no chance to visit. This was a complete waste of time . The Giant‘Causeway (the main event)was also rushed & no time was given if you did want to visit the exhibition/experience which was national Trust & therefore free to members which some of us were .Again our guide/driver simply complained about the cost set by the national trust. There was a lovely bar/restaurant on site (free to use )where we could have had lunch as an option. Definitely would not recommend the all day trip it was filled up with time wasting gift shops.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip Northern Ireland! Our tour guide/driver, Patrick, was amazing. He was super knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. This one day trip was well worth the cost!!!
Patrick was great.. too much game of thrones, not enough time at the giant causeway and the small towns
I’ve done quite a few coach tours across Europe and elsewhere in the world, and unfortunately this was one of the more average experiences. Having spoken to several other passengers throughout the day, it was reassuring to know we weren’t the only ones who felt the same. Coming to write this review, I see a few others also picked up on similar points to us, so we genuinely believe this is a fair and balanced review of our experience. The biggest issue was that it simply felt like far too much had been crammed into one day. If the tour had been extended by even an extra hour, I genuinely think it would have transformed the experience and allowed people to properly enjoy the stops, rather than constantly watching the clock. The timings felt really inconsistent. We seemed to spend far too long in some places and literally only minutes in others. It almost felt as though the guide thought that by continuously talking, nobody would notice how rushed many of the stops actually were. There was barely any opportunity to just sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery because there was almost constant narration throughout the journey. We understand we booked a “fully guided tour”, but in many places it felt less timely and relevant and more like filling the silence between stops. It just felt a little unnecessary and overwhelming. The Giant’s Causeway was probably the only stop that felt about right. We had enough time there to explore without feeling too rushed, and it was definitely the highlight of the day. It’s just a shame the rest of the itinerary didn’t have the same balance. Other stops were much less satisfying. Dunluce Castle was apparently our guide’s favourite castle - we were told that multiple times - but we’re still not entirely sure why because we barely stopped long enough or got close enough to properly appreciate it. In fact, that seemed to be a recurring theme. The castles all required additional admission fees, yet there wasn’t enough time to go inside anyway. This was one of our biggest frustrations with booking through TripAdvisor. The exclusions really should have been much clearer. The extra costs for attractions such as castle entry should have been made more obvious, and the itinerary should better explain what a “stop” actually consists of. Seeing somewhere from a distance for a few minutes is very different from having time to explore it, and we definitely came away feeling a little misled. The Dark Hedges suffered from the same issue. We were given an hour for lunch, but the walk to and from the actual Dark Hedges takes around 5-10 minutes each way, leaving far less time than you’d expect. Between trying to eat and actually seeing the attraction, it all felt unnecessarily rushed. A quick word of warning about the lunch stop too. The guide hands out what is described as a “discount” voucher, with a QR menu. Check the prices carefully before ordering. Quite a few people on our coach ended up being overcharged for the advertised lunch-and-drink combination. Not on the tour company, but given there’s a promotional arrangement in place, it’s highly likely you’ll eat there, so it’s worth being aware. I appreciate that lots of people clearly enjoy this tour, and judging by the overall ratings we’re probably in the minority. However, on our particular day there were a number of passengers saying very similar things. It gave us the impression that the itinerary has gradually been squeezed to fit as much in as possible, rather than allowing people enough time to genuinely experience the places. Out of respect for both the guide and the driver, I won’t identify either of them here because I don’t think the issues were personal. For us, the problems were with the way the tour itself is planned and timed, rather than the individuals running it. Sadly, despite visiting some incredible places, we came away feeling like we’d spent more time listening to a commentary and being hurried from one stop to the next than actually experiencing Northern Ireland. It’s certainly not a bad tour, and it’s definitely good value for money but I think the ambition didn’t quite match the reality.
Exploring the Causeway Coast and the UNESCO-listed Giant's Causeway was unforgettable. The dramatic landscape of County Antrim felt straight out of the movie Inception, with mountains rising in a truly spectacular way.
Our tour guide and driver, Patrick, was informative and an excellent driver! Giant's Causeway is a must see and cannot be described in words. Loved learning some history about Northern Ireland. High recommend.
This tour was spectacular and exceeded my expectations! The guide/driver, Patrick, was totally engaging and entertaining in addition to navigating the roads of Northern Ireland like a pro. Our group of 4 from the US (2 40 somethings and 2 young teens) all thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The highlight was Giants Causeway but the other stops made for a great day! We had premium seats which I would definitely recommend. Next time we are back we will definitely look to do another tour with Mccombs Coach Company!
Amazing experience! Guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of history. We’re able to make couple extra stops to see more coast line towns. Also over 5 Game of Thrones filming locations were a pleasant surprise Climbing Giants Causeway was very fun. Great views and atmosphere! Highly recommend
