Con donne indigene in abiti multicolori, pescatori in artigianato rustico e la bellezza dei tre vulcani circostanti: San Pedro, Toliman e Atitlan. Santiago Atitlan, la città più visitata per la sua bella Guipil (camicetta) e la sua vecchia chiesa cattolica con la combinazione di cultura Maya e spagnola. Per finalizzare l'ultima città da visitare è San Juan la Laguna, una città unica con cooperative di coloranti naturali, arte della pittura e piante medicinali.

Qui è dove inizia il tour. Al tuo arrivo avrai circa 45 minuti per fare colazione (non inclusa). Successivamente, cammini fino al molo per prendere la barca. Panajachel, conosciuta anche come "Pana", è un'affascinante città situata sulle rive del lago Atitlan. È il centro più importante della zona, motivo per cui si concentra la maggior parte degli hotel, ristoranti, locali notturni, centri di intrattenimento e negozi. Ideale per fare acquisti di artigianato e contribuire al turismo locale.
Prima città da visitare. San Juan la Laguna, una pittoresca cittadina sulla sponda occidentale del lago, ospita numerose cooperative: dagli apicoltori, ai coltivatori di caffè, ai tessitori a telaio, che lavorano utilizzando coloranti naturali. Usando tecniche ancestrali, estraggono coloranti dalla corteccia degli alberi, verdure, gusci di cocco e così via per dipingere di colori i loro prodotti.
Seconda città da visitare San Pedro la Laguna, che si estende su una penisola ai piedi del vulcano omonimo. È famoso quanto Panajachel, è il luogo preferito di molti turisti stranieri, che sono affascinati dalla tranquillità dell'ambiente.
Terza città da visitare: Santiago Atitlan è un luogo con molta bellezza naturale e colore, per l'artigianato che vi viene fatto e per il costume dei suoi abitanti. I residenti indossano il loro costume regionale e le donne indossano colorati huipiles (camicette) intrecciati in cotone bianco con disegni geometrici e uccellini. Multicolori ricamati in vita, e le cortes (gonne) sono costituite da un pezzo di stoffa avvolto intorno alla vita; Viene utilizzato anche un nastro chiamato tocoyal, lungo circa 20 metri e avvolto intorno al capo. In questa bellissima città si trova la Chiesa di Santiago Apóstol, costruita nel 1547. È una delle chiese più antiche del Guatemala e in essa si può apprezzare il sincretismo soprattutto nella pala d'altare maggiore. C'è anche un idolo Maya chiamato "Maximón" di origine sconosciuta.

This was truly one of the highlights of my trip to Guatemala. From beginning to end, everything was thoughtfully organized, and I felt completely taken care of. Elena and Pedro created such a special experience, and our guide, Elena shared so much about the history, culture, traditions, and daily life around Lake Atitlán, and her patience, kindness, and love for the area made everyone feel welcome. Visiting the villages by boat was unforgettable. Each one had its own unique character, and Elena helped us understand what made them so special. The scenery was breathtaking, and I came away with a much deeper appreciation for the people and culture of Guatemala. If you’re considering a tour of Lake Atitlán, I can’t recommend this group enough. It was an experience I’ll remember for a very long time.
The good: the lake is very beautiful, our excellent guides Elena and Verónica, the visit to the bees and the textile cooperative in San Juan, with the talented Amanda. The peaceful return trip. The bad: the outbound trip - bus without seatbelts, a "daring" driver (several of us arrived very nauseous), the incomprehensible visit to the shaman, the brief stop in San Rafael. The areas for improvement: less emphasis on shopping, more on enjoying the lake and learning about the history of those who inhabit it.
The lake and the four towns around it that we visited are fantastic! Incredible views, very interesting geography, history, and culture. The pickup was timely. Our guides, Elena and Verónica were simply superb. Couldn't be better: friendly, knowledgeable, informative, helpful.

Driver Frank was great. Local tour guides and people on lake towns not so much. It was ok with San Juan being nice for pictures. You inly send 30 mnts in San Pedro but really not much to see there anyway. In Santiago the best way to see the most is by paying extra to take a tuctuc. The best thing was the art gallery where we were able to see beautiful and different paintings depicting Guatemalan culture and daily activities. Food and service were not good and people were not very nice or customer service oriented. If you don't have much time and want to see the lake, this is a good option.

Lots of aggressive selling by the at all the stops along the lake so just be prepared- it was beyond frustrating.
It was a beautiful day and everything was so peaceful and well planned out. It was an easy transition from the moment they pick you up at the hotel to the lake, and vice-versa. Make sure you bring Q500 cash and sunscreen!
Getting to the lake is a two hour ride, through many busy rural towns and great landscapes. Good breakfast options are made available before boarding a covered and somewhat cramped fast boat twenty minutes across this massive (127 sq km) surrounded by volcanoes. The three towns are highly tourist oriented so expect to be politely harassed. There are beautiful crafts and bargains to be had - but not in the places you are taken to although the demonstrations of Mayan bee-keeping and uses of honey was well presented and fascinating. Likewise in the textiles studio showing how the cotton plant is turned into the many beautifully coloured items. There are three destinations visited with your private boat, the final one being a large town with an option for a one hour yuk-tuk tour for Q50, which is worth it. The very good quality lunch options happens after the tour and just before crossing back over the lake for the long drive back to Antigua. It makes for a 13 hour day after a very early 5.30am pick up.
Local guide Elena was great. The places we visited were nice, a bit focused on shopping but I don’t mind that, I appreciate the hustle of local artisans. Places where we had breakfast and lunch were ok; even though we ordered lunch in advance to avoid waiting, we still had to wait 20 minutes to be served. Now, the driving was awful. The driver was driving reckless, above the speed limit and using his phone. I was very anxious all the time. I would recommend as long as the driver gets his license revoked.

My girlfriend and I had a great time navigating on lake Atitlan. We got to see the beautiful and colorful towns of San Juan, San Pedro, and Santiago. Tourist guides were very friendly and informative. We recommend anyone visiting Guatemala to take this tour.
