Zanzibar is certainly one of those places where you don't need pre-booked outings! We bumped into Muhammad, the owner of "God Bless", at the sea side of the Tembo Hotel, and negotiated a rate right there!! Five minutes later we were on on his boat to the #Nakupenda #sandbank, and what a sight!! Priceless!! Lifelong memories!!
Very interesting visit to prison island : one of too many black pages of European colonialism in Africa. Beautiful beach of Nakupenda with its white sand. Great meal. Perfect Jasmine and Nando's
The history of the island is very interesting, unfortunately this island is very touristic which spoils the pleasure of the visit because it is done at a rush in a cloud of tourists. However, it is nice to see the flora and fauna of this island. The barbecue on the beach was disappointing: we were laid out on the sandbank in full sunshine while everything was set up when we were told that everything would be ready when we arrived. The sandbank is filled with tourists which spoils the experience a little. The seafood barbecue was good (but we were kissed because of the presence of lobsters too young). The absence of lobsters would have been better in this barbecue. The seabed is very dirty due to tourist activity (plastic waste, abandoned cutlery, aluminum cans, fauna and flora damaged by excessive activity...). In hindsight, we would not have booked this activity.
The History shared about the Prison Idland was amazing and the Tour Guide understood it and shared it very well.
This trip was a disaster! Would not recommend. The weather was stormy which delayed the day - which I appreciate is beyond anyone's control. Our guide took us to prison island and said that we could not go to nakupenda due to the weather ... then he said when the weather had changed and was calm that he couldn't take us there because he had no money to organise another boat .... we tried to explain to him that we had already paid through viator. The guide Alex was dismissive of our complaints saying that nakupenda is just a sandbank, and we tried to say we have paid £160 for the 2 of us to go on this trip to prison island and nakupenda which should be about 6 hours long. He took us around prison island and seemed in a bit of a hurry and was mostly on his phone throughout. we stayed for about an hour. Communication was poor. No food or drink was provided. Would not recommend and have contacted viator for a refund. So disappointed as this was our last day of our holiday and the most expensive excursion we had paid for.
We did the excursion with a lovely guide, always attentive and very helpful who speaks 7 languages. Nakupenda beach is postcard beautiful but Zanzibar Prison. Apart from the turtles, nothing really interesting.
Very nice guides, great places visited and a great experience at all. We also had a great lunch with fresh seafood and fruits for desert.
They didn't refund us due to their mistake, we waited more than an hour for the transfer and no one came, really terrible! We will never book with trip advisor again!!!!!!
Excellent meal and very friendly guide. On the other hand, the excursion was not carried out in the direction announced, that is to say that we first visited Prison Island and then Nakupenda. Our excursion was cut short because the island disappeared from 2:30 p.m. due to the tide. We are a little disappointed because we were not able to swim or enjoy Nakupenda.
It was not as planned and we stayed barely 1h30 on Nakupenda Island. It was very quick afterward the staff was very professional
