From the moment I met John my Railtours Ireland guide in the yellow jacket I was at ease. I was greeted with the most genuine excitement and he immediately made sure I was checked in and had everything I needed to make my day trip a success and as stress free as possible. On our rail trip from Dublin to Galway John made sure all my questions were answered, that I was educated and informed about not only my destinations that day but also Ireland in general! I learned so much about local travel and the many other amazing destinations Ireland has to offer. John took the time and attention to outline my day and future connections as part of my trip involved shuttles and a short plane ride from outside Galway to Inishmoore one of the Aran islands. Without his guidance and notes it certainly would have been more stressful trying to navigate on my own. John went out of his way to make sure my day was a success and I was able to see everything I wanted to and more. On my return to the train station at Galway I was greeted by John and another Railtours guide who both were there to assure myself and two other travelers coming from another trip were safe and had everything we needed to get back to Dublin easily. Again more great conversation was had and all of our Ireland travel questions were answered with ease. If you are interested in Ireland and rail travel (the best way to experience the country in my opinion) do not hesitate to book with Railtours Ireland! You will be well taken care of and they will all go above and beyond to make sure your travel is a success and memorable.
We started out on the wrong foot on our first day of the tour, we missed our tour by 5 minutes. Rail tours staff were very helpful to assist us in getting back on track by sending a member of their team to get us our tour packet to us so we can continue on with the remainder of our tours the next day. On day two of our tour we met with our tour guide Anthony O’Conner, who was very helpful in assisting us by walking us to the bus stop where we would get picked up. Anthony was very pleasantly delightful to talk to as he informed us of our tour. Our bus guide David and the driver, I fail to remember the drivers name, were very pleasant and informative on the sights and history of your tour route. To my horror, I realized I thought I lost my cell phone on one of the stops, David quickly turned the bus around to help me find it, only to find out that as I kept frantically looking I had it on me. Thanks to David’s good nature and pleasant disposition, we were able to make light of the situation. Thank you Anthony and David and driver for such a great tour day and overall experience. Rail tours have great staff and tour sights to experience.
Dear Ana G, Thank you very much for your complimentary review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed our 3-Day Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, and Aran Islands Tour. We are delighted that you were able to catch up to the tour and enjoy the remainder of it without any delay. We are also very glad to hear that your mobile phone wasn't lost - and your complimentary remarks about Anthony and David are very much appreciated! We hope to welcome you back on tour with us soon! Kind regards, The Railtours Ireland Team
My tour was absolutely fabulous and the tour guide John Todd Could not have been better. He was very well informed all the information and I learn very much on this trip. Highly recommend
The guides were great as was the accommodation at this price point. I felt slightly mislead. The operator is something like First Class Railtours. The train portion was distinctly not First Class. The legroom on the bus was unbearable for person like me who is over 6’. I could not sit facing forwards and my back was sore from sitting in a twisted position all day. Heavier people would struggle too I would guess. The tour buses drop off and pick up on the side of the road after a short walk rather than in front of the hotel which other operators seem to manage. It is not ideal when it is raining. Day 2 was a washout with no alternate program. We will see how Day 3 goes tomorrow.
The beauty, history and variety of this tour was excellent. Our guide offered the best of Irish humor, cheerfulness and intelligence. The stops were beautifully arranged to allow enough time to explore the sites without feeling either rushed or too slow. The only time in Galway was the evening, but that is when the city comes to life.
excellent. we like the excursions the best. staff were also excellent. there was a moment of some confusion the bus driver, Mick, made sure everything was ok before he dropped us off.

The tour was good. The tour guides were attentive and made you feel that you were taken care of. HOWEVER, the second day we were going to the Aran Island. The weather was nasty. No one had the forethought of switching the days as this was a 3-day tour. so we took the ferry. The tour guide at the Aran islands was not very good and he could care less. When we got back to the ferry, the first ferry was full. The agency did pick us up and we went to a pub for some Irish coffee. The highlight of the tour. The other two days went flawlessly.

VERY nice, comfortable, well organized, knowledgeable tour guides. Time on our own was just right!

This trip is really three one day tours, with a hotel in Galway. You wait until the other people coming on the tour take the train from Dublin, so you get a late start and see less than you might. Still, the Cliffs of Moher and Connemara days were good. They were spent on one bus, with one guide all day.

The Aran Islands day should be the highlight, but Railtours totally mishandles that one. They keep passing you off from person or operator to the next. Leaving you someplace with instructions that someone will pick you up in 10 minutes or some other time. They are late, then once they get there, they make you wait until others from some other tour come or they look for more customers.

There was no continuity and so much time was wasted that we saw less and were rushed at what we did see. Frankly, we started worrying that no one would show up at all. And all that time spent waiting, was time that we could have been enjoying the Island.

The hotel in Galway is probably fine in the winter, but having no air conditioning was a real problem The window opens out a tiny bit at the bottom, not enough to let air flow. There is no fan.

But noises from outside do get in. Young people screaming until late at night, what sounded like thousands of birds calling when the dawn starts to brake and then the city vehicles picking up trash and doing other things. We had two straight nights of hardly any sleep.

Everything ran as smoothly and efficiently as could be! We very pleased with the tours. Brendan and Norman provided terrific service and all of our connections were perfectly coordinated. We even got perfect weather for our days. Imperial Hotel in Galway was very nice. Would have liked more time at Kylemore Abbey, but otherwise, no problems and appreciated how everything ran like clockwork. Way to go, tour company and Viator.
