Good overview of the city center Bordeaux. We did 12K steps through various local markets that we would have not found on our own. Dave is a new tour guide but well versed in Bordeaux as he grew up here. He asked for our patience and he was good at sharing his knowledge on Bordeaux.
We visited 2 stops at a market and additional stops all over Bordeaux. Not much information given as we passed historical sites except for here’s a church that’s from the 17th century, here’s the old gate to the city, etc. Would have liked more information. Also, I’m gluten free and contacted Viator about this several times before taking the tour. When we met the guide, she said she didn’t know. Unfortunately, no alternatives were offered during this tour. I showed her where a gluten free bakery was and she said “oh that’s very near by” but didn’t take us there. We passed a chocolate shop that she said is one of the best but didn’t think to let me go in! My husband was fine with all the selections but unfortunately not even a macaron was offered. I feel there was a definite disconnect between Viator and the guide but she should have been able to pivot once knowing someone wasn’t able to have most of the foods on the tour. Every other food tour we’ve taken the guide was able to accommodate my food allergy. It was just the 2 of us on the tour so, that made the situation even more ridiculous.
Dear June, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. Regarding your gluten-free dietary requirement, we would like to clarify that we were unfortunately never informed by Viator of this allergy prior to the tour. Had this information been communicated to us in advance, we would have done our best to assess possible options with our tasting partners. While there were only two guests on the tour that day, this is a shared food tour with a tasting itinerary that is arranged and confirmed in advance with our local vendors. The food selections and quantities are therefore pre-planned, which can make last-minute dietary accommodations challenging, especially when we have not been notified beforehand. We sincerely regret the disconnect in communication between Viator and our team and understand how disappointing this must have been. We also appreciate your comments regarding the historical commentary during the tour, as guest feedback helps us continue improving the experience we provide. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we wish you all the best in your future travels. Kind regards, The Original Food Tours team
David was such a wonderful guide. He grew up in Bordeaux so his knowledge of the area really made our tour special!
First of all - Coline, our tour guide, was very nice and knowledgeable. However, the rest of the tour was quite disappointing especially for what we paid to take this tour. Our expectations definitely were not met. The tour barely lasted 2 hours. We only had 5 stops (3 of which were in the same market). We did not leave remotely full. I don’t know if they had to deviate because of the holidays but if that was the case, they shouldn’t have agreed to the tour. We’ve taken food tours all over the world and this didn’t come close to ones with other vendors.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed Coline’s knowledge and guidance during the tour. We are, however, concerned to hear that the tour did not meet your expectations. Our tours are carefully designed to showcase a curated selection of local flavors and experiences within the advertised timeframe. While holidays can occasionally impact schedules, we always aim to provide a full, enjoyable experience and communicate any necessary adjustments clearly. We appreciate all guest feedback and will take your comments into account as we continue to refine our tours. We hope you might consider joining us again in the future to experience the full range of what we have to offer. Best regards.
Highly recommend. This is delightful tour. We spent the morning touring and thoroughly enjoyed Anza’s tour - friendly, knowledgeable and great company. The route and stop offs were fantastic. Full of Bordelaise people making their living from the wonderful food and wine culture. A very friendly and warm experience of people living and working in Bordeaux. The produce was top notch and the charcuterie and wine stop were special highlights.
They cancelled late the night before due to a sick guide however that was the 3 tour through Viator in a row where that excuse was given over our 4 days in Bordeaux . Recommend going direct with a tour agency vs using Viator. Very frustrating since everything was planned through viator for our short stay and everything was cancelled at the last minute
We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Please note that we are not Viator and can’t be held responsible for other businesses that have canceled other tours on you. Unfortunately, your guide fell ill that day — sometimes these things happen. We offered alternative options, but they didn’t fit your schedule. We hope you still enjoyed your time in Bordeaux.
Lovely walking tour through centre of Bordeaux with lots of lovely tasting stops along the way. Food to start and wine to finish. Nice touch was that the tasting stops started savoury and ended sweet. Guide was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English.
Anza was great. She's not born and bred in Bordeaux but she knows her stuff and she is sooo lovely. We talked about sooo many things and because it was only the 2 of us with her we could chat and ask about so many things. The tour is just the right amount of time, the wine was great, company was great and the vendors provided delicious morsels. Well worth it if your are a small group. Not sure how it would be if it was a larger one. Thanks Anza and Original Food Tours.
The tour was in old town, specifically the market area. The area is unique and the aromas of fresh foods was delightful since this was a food and wine tour. All areas we visited, our hosts only enhanced the tour by their charm and knowledge. Anza was an amazing guide. She was fun, and most of all she knew her craft!
Visiting the Marche de Capucins. Wonderful market. Everywhere we stored the vendors were great. Outside , the Boulangerie we visited had great breads.
