Qoricancha, o "Cortile d'Oro", era il sito più importante dedicato al culto del dio sole. Un tempo le pareti erano ricoperte di foglie d'oro. In questo luogo venne edificato il convento che oggi porta lo stesso nome, con strutture in pietra levigata. Presenta una notevole facciata in stile rinascimentale e una torre barocca unica, oltre a un'impressionante collezione di dipinti della scuola di Cusco.
Il nome Saqsayhuaman significa "falco soddisfatto" in quechua. Questa fortezza fu costruita per proteggere la città di Cusco dagli invasori orientali ed è un eccellente esempio di architettura militare Inca. Costruito con enormi blocchi di granito, alcuni dei quali raggiungono i 5 metri di altezza e pesano fino a 350 tonnellate, è costituito da tre grandi terrazze delimitate da colossali mura di pietra che si estendono fino a 300 metri di lunghezza. Grazie alla sua vicinanza a Cusco, fungeva anche da cava per alcuni edifici coloniali della città.
Qenqo era un centro cerimoniale Inca con tunnel e piattaforme utilizzate per rituali e cerimonie religiose, a dimostrazione dell'importanza spirituale di questo sito per la civiltà Inca. Qenqo presenta incisioni, fori, gradini e canali, probabilmente utilizzati per depositare la chicha (una bevanda a base di mais) nei rituali Inca.
Puca Pucara è anche conosciuta come la fortezza rossa perché le pietre con cui è stata costruita hanno assunto questo colore a causa dell'elevato contenuto di ferro. Oltre alla fortezza, si possono ammirare altre strutture archeologiche come acquedotti, recinti e fontane. Per la sua vicinanza a Tambomachay e per le sue caratteristiche, si ritiene che costituisse una fortezza militare per la difesa di questo luogo.
Noto come il "Bagno Inca", Tambomachay era un centro cerimoniale dedicato al culto dell'acqua e luogo di riposo per il monarca Inca. È costituito da rocce scolpite, che formano uno splendido insieme di canali e cascate, provenienti da sorgenti. Fine dei servizi.

This was a great introduction to the archaeological sites around Cusco, our guide was knowledgeable, led us around the sites efficiently avoiding long ticket lines, and allowed plenty of time to walk around and take photos. I especially appreciate the option at Saqsayhuaman to choose whether to return on the bus or spend as much time as we wanted then walk back on our own. I chose to spend over 2 hours exploring the stunning site taking my time and had small picnic lunch that I recommend packing if you do this. Finally, I really enjoyed the roughly 30 minute mostly down hill walk through some picturesque residential streets back to the city center.
A fabulous Inca place, overlooking the city of Cusco!!!! We wonder how such a site could have been built when we see the size of the stones and their weight!!!!! It is advisable to take several hours to visit the entire site which is very extensive!!!!! Note that the welcome of Peruvians is really warm and really changes from that of French

I wouldn't recommend this experience to an English speaker. The guide was difficult to understand and the tour was rushed due to the guide needing to explain everything in two languages at each stop.
This place is really nice but after exploring Machupichu, the Sacred Valley or Sacsaywaman everything seems pretty much the same. Don't get me wrong I was fascinated with the majestic constructions but after a while, I got tired of it. It is worthy to see it. I suggest going there before going to Machupichu.

An amazing place, rain or no rain. The history of the place is amazing. Our guide told us how they moved the stones and part of the Inca structure, Seeing him in person is surprising. The pictures are great next to the big rocks and the windows still standing
