La Valle dei Caduti è un monumento del regime franchista, una basilica cattolica e un monumento commemorativo nel comune di San Lorenzo de El Escorial, eretto nella Valle di Cuelgamuros nella Sierra de Guadarrama, vicino a Madrid. Franco ha affermato che il monumento doveva essere un "atto nazionale di espiazione" e riconciliazione. I lavori di costruzione coinvolsero principalmente lavoratori liberi e una minore, seppur significativa, percentuale di detenuti, questi tra il 1942 e il 1950, in regime di redenzione delle condanne.
San Lorenzo de El Escorial, noto anche come El Escorial de Arriba è una città e un comune della Comunità di Madrid, in Spagna, situato a nord-ovest della regione nel lato sud-orientale della Sierra de Guadarrama, ai piedi del monte Abantos e Las Machotas, 47 chilometri (29 miglia) da Madrid. È capo dell'omonima parte giudiziaria. L'insediamento è popolarmente chiamato El Escorial de Arriba, per differenziarlo dal vicino villaggio di El Escorial, noto anche come El Escorial de Abajo. Felipe II ordinò la costruzione di questo monastero in riconoscimento della vittoria di San Quintín, avvenuta nel giorno di San Lorenzo nel 1557 e che è del re, per erigere un mausoleo in memoria dei suoi genitori e di lui, posto sotto l'invocazione di San Lorenzo.

This is such an incredible piece of history to visit. Our guide was excellent with so many details. I loved seeing in person the history I have studied through the years & my son really enjoyed it as well.
Excellent explanation in all the trip, the guide resolve all the questions and add very good extra histories

Great tour. The bus was comfortable and our driver handled the busy highways and the windy backroads equally well. Our guide, David, was super nice, speaking in both Spanish & English. He was knowledgeable and entertaining in his presentation. I took a different tour yesterday with another company, and that guide gave so much detail that it became very tedious to listen to him. David had just the right mix of information to make the tour educational and brevity to keep it light & enjoyable. I don't take a lot of guided tours, but I thought this was one of the best I've been on.

We went with David and everything went very well with Dario. Everything was on time from the driver, and David was very attentive and responded very well to all the questions that arose.

This was a great tour! Beatrice was very informative and I enjoyed how she presented the history of the places we visited. I especially loved things she pointed out that without a guide you'd miss. Also when she told us to remember a fact or historical figure for later and would point something out that related to it as the tour went on. I enjoyed making the connections. This is my 2nd tour with the company and the transportation is amazing. Comfortable, great drivers, and great AC. They also do the earbuds and radio to hear your guide which has been my favorite thing about the tours as I don't ever miss any info. Thanks for a great day Beatrice!
