Il viaggio da Sarajevo a Srebrenica è di circa 2 ore e mezza. Visiteremo il Centro commemorativo di Srebrenica e la città di Srebrenica. Il genocidio di Srebrenica è stato il massacro avvenuto nel luglio 1995 in cui sono stati uccisi più di 8000 bosgnacchi, per lo più uomini, ma anche donne e bambini, che vivevano a Srebrenica e dintorni. Il Tribunale penale internazionale per l'ex Jugoslavia ha dichiarato che il massacro di Srebrenica è stato un genocidio. Potočari, una piccola località vicino a Srebrenica, è stata dichiarata zona sicura dalle unità olandesi delle Nazioni Unite. Tuttavia, le unità serbo-bosniache hanno invaso la zona di protezione e hanno continuato a massacrare oltre 8000 bosniaci. Ci sono riprese video di quel periodo, riprodotte nel Memorial Center, che mostrano le esecuzioni. Le vittime furono seppellite in fosse comuni e ancora oggi molte vittime non sono state identificate né ritrovate. Il memoriale è stato ufficialmente inaugurato dall'ex presidente degli Stati Uniti Bill Clinton nel settembre 2003. Nello stesso anno, a marzo, sono state identificate le prime 600 vittime.

A must visit museum when you visit Sarajevo and you want to learn about the recent history. Some of the picures and TV-images though are quite confronting.

Being able to see and walk through the factory where over 25000 sought refuge made a huge impact on me. the footage and photographs were hard to watch but so important to remember. I would advise everyone to visit who want to understand and make sense of the atrocities that happened in Srebrenica.

The Srebrenica day tour was very easy to organise with Kamer. Our tour guide Vekas was fantastic - he was very professional, informative and ensured the tour was tailored to us. We had adequate time to learn about the history, view the museum and cemetery. We greatly enjoyed the journey with beautiful scenery and learning about the history.
