Durante questo tour visiterai una tradizionale piantagione di cacao vicino al Parco Cahuita a Puerto Limon. In questa proprietà, gestita da una famiglia locale con più di 100 anni di tradizione del cioccolato, potrai conoscere la sua storia e come è riuscito a sopravvivere nel tempo. Accompagnati da esperte guide locali, visiteremo le piantagioni di cacao per conoscere la pianta, le tecniche di coltivazione, i suoi frutti, la raccolta e la lavorazione dei semi fino ad arrivare al prodotto finale: il Cioccolato. Dopo questo tour del cioccolato, continua il viaggio verso il Canale del Tortuguero, un luogo ricco di specie selvatiche dove è facile vedere i bradipi nel loro habitat naturale.

Limón, comunemente noto come Puerto Limón, è un distretto, capitale e principale centro della provincia di Limón, nonché del cantone di Limón in Costa Rica. È la settima città più grande della Costa Rica, con una popolazione di oltre 55.000 abitanti, ed è sede della comunità afro-costaricana. Il molo si trova proprio di fronte alla città ed è una piccola cittadina che potrete esplorare facilmente con una breve passeggiata. Se desideri scoprire e imparare tutto sul cacao o sul cioccolato, sarai nel posto giusto per farlo, visitando la nostra piantagione di cacao originale (più di 100 anni) con la sua rispettiva storia, quindi arriviamo ad una nuova piantagione in produzione dove imparerai a coltivare il cacao in armonia con la natura e potrai anche assaggiare la frutta fresca e arriveremo al Museo Afro-Caraibico, tutta la storia del cacao, macchinari utilizzati per lavorare l'essiccazione del cacao nel secolo scorso e accanto al museo c'è uno spazio adeguato dove osservare tutto il processo della fava di cacao, anche i clienti possono partecipare degustando i chicchi nelle diverse fasi del processo fino a diventare cioccolato e infine possono assaggiare il cioccolato che desiderano.
Il Canale Tortuguero a Moin, nella zona di Puerto Limon, è l'inizio delle 100 miglia che costeggiano la costa caraibica del Costa Rica. Questo canale naturale e artificiale ospita molte specie di fauna selvatica facili da vedere, tra cui bradipi, uccelli acquatici e, con un po' di fortuna, scimmie.

There was a tour guide and bus driver who worked together. The tour guide was excellent explaining what the tour entailed. He showed us what Costa Rican money looked like and passed it around. We visited the Chocolate plantation, saw crocodiles and enjoyed a delicious hot lunch. We even got to shop in the store! A wonderful experience with terrific tour guides!

Our guide was Ernesto and he truly gave us a remarkable day. The cacao farm tour was interesting, fun and tasty! Seeing the steps from pod to finished product and all the steps between was really something, and the folks at the farm were terrific. We really got lucky on the canal as we saw sloths and monkeys! Ernesto also took us to the banana plantation and gave us some truly interesting insights to the flora in CR. I should also give rave reviews to our driver. Hector. His eagle eyes spotted sloths during our drive! Finally, once back in Limon, Ernesto showed us the best place to buy Costa Rican coffee and then a small local cafe- things he certainly didn't have to do but were very much appreciated Overall our day was truly enjoyable and we would definitely recommend this tour (especially if you can get Ernesto as tour guide!)

Steven was a great tour guide! This was noted in prior reviews and was instrumental in my final decision to go with this tour. Highly recommend over booking a tour through the cruise line. It was great to be in a small group vs a commercial bus with 75+ people. Again Steven was the best and you will have no second thoughts on choosing this tour!

We rate this 5 out of 5 stars. Steven is an excellent guide. We were lucky, it was just the two of us on the tour so it was a very personal experience. If we come back to Costa Rica we would use Greenway Tours and we would ask for Steven again.

The boat ride in the canal was way too long. The guide (Christopher) was very good though. We did learn a lot about the chocolate process

The Chocolate Tour & Tortuguero Canal shore excursion from Puerto Limon was excellent. Our guide and driver Steven was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we never felt rushed at any of the stops. A nice touch was the box we were given that included water, fruit juice, sweets and food bar. It was lovely to just be on the tour with one other couple, so much easier and more comfortable than being on a coach with 50 people. The stops were interesting with lots of information given. We were given some lovely fresh fruit after the canal portion of the the tour. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

WOW this was a great tour and well worth the price! Highly recommend. They picked us up from our cruise terminal and then drove into the jungle where we saw the chocolate museum/plantation. Got a chance to see the fruit growing and even try the raw cocoa pod fruit (delicious!). We saw the entire process of how chocolate is made and got to eat it at each stage. We then went to a banana plantation and saw how bananas are harvested (and we got to try both commercial and local small bananas which are delicious!). Then the tour of the Canal in a boat (no kayaking or paddling necessary), where the guide pointed out several sloths, monkeys, birds, lizards, and more. An unforgettable day and a great tour!!!!
