Partendo da Corona Plaza, visiteremo una panetteria messicana a conduzione familiare per dolci dolci per la colazione. Da lì continueremo verso un luogo fuori mano dove ci siederemo con le famiglie del vicinato per goderci un abbondante brunch in stile messicano a base di capra arrosto. Continueremo lungo Roosevelt Avenue, fermandoci davanti ai venditori ambulanti, in una panetteria argentina e facendo una sosta per un "cholado". Concluderemo la nostra giornata in una piccola bodega. Quest'ultima fermata ci lascia al confine tra Jackson Heights ed Elmhurst, avendo provato ciò che rende il Queens una terra promessa culinaria.

Inizieremo la giornata nella Corona Plaza pedonale, il vivace luogo d'incontro del quartiere, e visiteremo una panetteria messicana a conduzione familiare dove ci uniremo al rituale del fine settimana di scegliere dolci e panini per la colazione da grandi vassoi predisposti per i clienti. Da lì continueremo verso un luogo fuori mano dove ci siederemo con le famiglie del vicinato per goderci un abbondante brunch in stile messicano a base di capra arrosto.
Il nostro tour gastronomico nel Queens continua lungo Roosevelt Avenue, che nei fine settimana è fiancheggiata da venditori ambulanti provenienti da tutta l'America Latina. Per soddisfare la nostra voglia di dolci, faremo un salto in una panetteria all'angolo argentina per alcune prelibatezze tradizionali e ci fermeremo per un "cholado", un ibrido di dessert congelato e macedonia di frutta noto anche come cono di neve colombiano. Concluderemo la nostra giornata in una piccola bodega aperta da un uomo di Veracruz, in Messico, entrando per un cocktail celebrativo (di gamberetti). Quest'ultima fermata ci lascia ai margini di Jackson Heights e Elmhurst, due quartieri di immigrati che custodiscono le loro ricchezze culinarie (e che verranno ulteriormente esplorati come parte della nostra passeggiata più lunga nel Queens), un allettante promemoria che durante questa mezza giornata abbiamo ha solo scalfito la superficie di ciò che rende il Queens una terra promessa dal punto di vista culinario.

Another amazing Culinary Backstreets tour! Carly, our guide, was the perfect companion to introduce us to the amazing food of Queens. She not only shared so many great tastes with us, but gave us background about the neighborhood and the cultures of everything we were eating. Carly had a magic bag with her filled with everything possible to make our experience even better: scissors to evenly cut empanadas, mini tongs to keep us from making a mess, hand sanitizer so we were never worried about eating with our hands and napkins for any spill we might encounter. We loved learning about this part of New York with her and can't wait to go on another Culinary Backstreets tour!
