Vedi quella grossa boa rossa davanti a te? È difficile da perdere, poiché è l’ultima cosa che vedrete prima dell’oceano. Questo segna il punto più meridionale degli Stati Uniti continentali! Beh, piu' o meno. Lascia che ti spieghi. NOTA : Il tour è lungo più di 100 miglia, con più di 70 storie audio, e richiede circa 2-3 ore per essere completato. Nuovo, Accesso a vita, nessuna scadenza. La storica Cedar House si trova alla nostra destra. È piuttosto difficile non notarlo, visto il nome! Perché la chiamano la Casa del Cedro? Dai un'occhiata alla casa e al recinto che la circonda. Esatto, sono entrambi fatti di cedro. Questa è una delle poche case a Key West realizzate interamente in cedro.
Davanti a sinistra possiamo vedere il famoso albero Kapok. È quello grande con rami larghi che si estendono direttamente dal tronco. Gli alberi di Kapok sono alcuni degli alberi da fiore più grandi del mondo, raggiungendo altezze di oltre 200 piedi. Si trovano nei caldi climi tropicali e sono considerati sacri da molte culture.
L'incrocio più avanti segna l'inizio della US Highway One. Il miglio zero si trova proprio più avanti, alla nostra sinistra. Ci avvicineremo dal retro del cartello, quindi assicurati di camminare davanti per vedere meglio.
Se desideri fare una breve deviazione verso un'attrazione piratesca, gira a destra in Caroline Street. Questo ti porterà alla casa del Capitano George Carey, sede del Pozzo dei Pirati. Il pozzo è proprio davanti alla casa.
Alla nostra destra si trova la Captain George Carey House! Hai mai sentito parlare del "naufragio delle spose tedesche?" È una cosa reale! Una nave naufragò qui vicino nel 1800 e cinque donne tedesche sopravvissero. Erano tutte single e ognuna di loro finì per sposare un uomo di Key West!
Dai un'occhiata a sinistra. Vedi l'insegna della "piccola" Casa Bianca di Truman? È a pochi passi da qui, quindi se vuoi dare un'occhiata, puoi seguire le indicazioni. Ma se non lo fai, continua a proseguire lungo Whitehead Street mentre ti racconto qualcosa a riguardo.
Alla nostra destra si trova l'Audubon House e i suoi giardini tropicali circostanti. Non puoi perdertelo! Costruita nel 1849, questa era la casa del capitano John Geiger, uno degli uomini più ricchi di Key West.
Ci stiamo avvicinando a Greene Street, sede di un punto di riferimento molto speciale di Key West: il Captain Tony's Saloon! Gli sgabelli di questo locale portano i nomi delle celebrità che si sono fermate a bere qualcosa lì. Alla nostra sinistra c’è la nuova sede di Sloppy Joe’s. È ora di mettere le cose in chiaro una volta per tutte. Come ho già detto, questo non è l'originale Sloppy Joe's. Ma sapevi che non lo era nemmeno il Captain Tony's Saloon? Allora dov'era l'originale?
Che ci crediate o no, quella casa bianca con il portico alla nostra destra è la casa più antica dell'isola! Costruito nel 1829, ospitò il famoso sabotatore, il capitano Fracis Watlington, che visse lì con la moglie e nove figlie. Sì, hai sentito bene: nove!
Notate la grande chiesa bianca alla nostra sinistra? Questa è la chiesa episcopale di San Paolo, uno degli edifici più belli della zona. Non lo diresti guardandolo, ma la chiesa ha visto la sua giusta dose di tragedie e disastri nel corso degli anni.
Ricordi l'incendio del 1886? L’edificio bianco con tre arcate alla nostra destra è il San Carlos Institute, ed è lì che è iniziato l’incendio! Oggi è un museo, una biblioteca, un teatro e una scuola. Oh, e una galleria d'arte. È stato anche riconosciuto come uno dei monumenti più belli della Florida.
Proprio più avanti, alla nostra destra, si trova il Conservatorio delle farfalle e della natura. Qui puoi vedere oltre 50 specie di farfalle provenienti da tutto il mondo, oltre a giardini pieni di piante da fiore, uccelli esotici e cascate. Una sorta di paradiso nel paradiso.

Great low cost tour of some of the most famous places in key West. Technology worked pretty well, and was easily able to select locations out of sequence on a moving map as we wandered around town. Lots of good "inside Key West" trivia included as well.

Great information and very easy to use. You could start and end at any point which was great because the best parking in a crowded area was halfway through the trip. As soon as we got out of the car and called up the app, the narration began with directions to the route. Loved the ability to stop and go into a museum or other attraction, get a drink and then resume your walk. Do go into the Butterfly Conservatory. Best attraction in the Keys

We did the stops going backward due to our location. That threw off some of the narrative stuff going in reverse order. You can start anywhere, but I recommend going to the stops in ascending order.

This was an easy walk, up and back the two main streets in the old downtown Key West. Good history talks, this takes an hour or four, depending on photo and shopping stops…

Inexpensive. Easy self guided tour that takes you from Duval Street down to the Southern most tip in Key West. You can stop and pause when you need to, and also relisten to it later! Wonderful facts as you walk. Clear voice that's easy to listen to on your own device.

The guided tour of down town Key West was great. Due to some time constraints and where we were parked, we had to do the tour backwards. It would have been better to do the normal way as some information at later stops builds on earlier ones. However, the app worked really well and the information was interesting and fun. Definitely worth it!

We were very pleased, The positives: 1) Price is great $9.99 2) interesting information, And good length, each stop has around 1.5 minutes of info. Also Voice is easy to understand. 3) you can advance each stop on your own or it will go to the next stop based on your walking and gps. 4) begin tour whenever you want, no meeting time 5) you don’t have to steer at #1 stop, we began the tour midway since tattoo was near our ship. Small negative: It takes a few minutes and a little confusing to set up and get going. Not bad, but not just as simple as hit the reservation link. We will definitely use them again in other cities.
