Very good organization Our guide Walter, in addition to being educational, is helpful and a facilitator. Bony, our captain on board, is reassuring and friendly. This immersive experience with a family on Amantani was moving and rich in lessons. Please know that while there may be moments of overtourism, these communities operate on a tour basis. Each community receives visitors every 2 to 3 months... so let us not be stingy with a few soles in gratitude for such an organization that helps sustain these ancestral cultures.
Cordialement, Ronald Ticona
Beware of booking with Viator. Our guide Roger was the worst. He did nothing but give a few basic info about what the trip involved. He did nothing bother giving us ANY safety info while on the boat. It got so rocky. At least a few of us were sick and he was missing in action. The lady assistant he called her, was sweet enough to be concerned. I asked about floaties. He lifts one up and says we have here. While on the Uslands too, he did not meet with any of us to even find out how it is with the host family. He lacks the courtesy to wish people. Most people on our boat had the same opinion. Also, misled us to pay for the Reed boat ride which is a joke to make money. Avoid avoid him. We booked our tour with Viator. The Uros stop was too commercial and disappointing. We all loved the experience of staying with a host family and get to see a bit of life on the Amantani island. Tequile was very pretty and the lunch was great.
Dear Traveler, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we sincerely appreciate your comments because they give us an important opportunity to improve. We have already reviewed your comments internally and provided Roger with the necessary feedback. We are addressing each of the points you mentioned seriously and one by one, especially those related to safety on the lake, which for us is one of the most important aspects of our operation. Regarding the safety information on the boat, all our vessels carry life jackets and are checked by the local maritime authority before departure. However, we fully agree that having the equipment on board is not enough if the safety instructions are not given clearly and at the proper time. This point has been discussed directly with Roger and with our operations team, and we are reinforcing this procedure to ensure it is handled more consistently. Regarding the stay with the host families, we understand and accept your observation. There should have been more follow-up and contact from the guide so that passengers felt accompanied and supported during that part of the experience. We have also addressed with him the importance of maintaining a warmer, more attentive, and more courteous presence throughout the tour. Concerning the reed boat ride at Uros, this is an optional activity managed by the local community and it is not included in the tour price. Even so, we understand from your comments that this may not have been explained clearly enough, and for that reason we will reinforce both our pre-tour briefing and our guide instructions to avoid misunderstandings. We would also like to say that sometimes, as human beings, people may go through difficult days, and while Roger has also received good comments from many other travelers, that does not lessen the importance of your experience or your observations. On the contrary, situations like this remind us that these service-quality topics must be reviewed regularly and seriously to ensure a consistent standard for all our passengers. We are especially grateful that you also mentioned the positive parts of your trip, such as your experience with the host family in Amantani, the beauty of Taquile, and the lunch there. We truly value that balanced feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies on behalf of Titicaca Tours. We deeply appreciate your comments, and we are already working on these improvement points with the seriousness they deserve. Kind regards, Ronald Ticona Titicaca Tours (Experiences manager)

We recommend the 2-day tour because it is a unique experience to know how communities live in different parts of the lake. Highly recommended to spend the night there as the sunset is beautiful. We also want to recommend Bruno who is a great connoisseur of Lake Titicaca and a caring and friendly guide.

The activity in itself is absolutely incredible, the Welcoming of people and the food we are served, we could not give better. It is the experience of a lifetime and it must be lived. HOWEVER, I have to remove a star because the description of the activity lacks a lot of relevant information. You should know that on arrival in amantani we must climb for about 30min with our luggage, at an altitude of about 3600m. To get to patchatata and patchamama, it is a good 1-2h continuous slope walk at an altitude of up to 4100m. So you still need some physical strength. The same for the island of tease. You get there around 8am in the morning or you climb for 1 hour, it is optional to climb 20-30min more to go to the top of the mountain. Here it is about 3900m. After a traditional dance awaits us another 30min walk always going up to get to the meal. Finally to return to the boat, 5min to climb before descending more than 400 steps. I definitely recommend this activity, but I think it would be advisable to better inform people about what awaits them.
The tour operators communication was great from the time of booking. As we were arriving Puno at 5 am on the same day of the tour, they helped arrange transportation and breakfast at a local hotel near the main square. So we could wait comfortably there. They then picked us up from the hotel to join the wider group for the tour. It was a very large group with a mix of Spanish and non-spanish speakers. The tour guide made sure to explain everything in both Spanish and English. We didn't feel like we miss anything. We first visited Uros Island where they shared how they come to build the island. After that, we got herded to local houses, to which we had hoped to learn more about their lifestyle but instead they just kept selling us their products. We felt they were very pushy. After that we got on the boat ride which costs 15 soles. It involved them paddling us to the middle of the lake and then stopped, then asked for payments, then used motor engines to drive the boat to the other side of the island. These people just came across as money grabbers - we didn't feel a single ounce of genuineness from these locals. Also when we got on the other side of the Island, there were more shops and a Cafe. Quite honestly we believed that this part of the trip can be shortened. The next island is great as we got paired up with locals, Nicholas and his wife. They were so sweet and just wanted to learn about us and tell us about their family and their community. We could tell that they genuinely enjoy hosting. We really wished we spoke better Spanish as we had so much to ask them. They made us lovely local meals upon our arrival. We got to see their father earth ritual area, and participated a dance party in the evening. The walk to the father earth ritual is a steep uphill walk, so be mindful. Please note that there is very basic facility at the home stay - your own room with toilet outside. No shower or working sink. We have gotten used to it from Inca Trail so it is not a problem for us. The next day at 7 45 am, we embarked on our journey to the next island. We had to walk 30-45mins around the island to get to the main square from the port. The locals then performed their local ritual (dance and music) for us. We honestly think they can benefit from watching America's got talent or similar shows - they are not great performers and the lack of enthusiasm in their performance made it hard for us to enjoy. But we definitely enjoyed our guide explaining the local traditions after at a restaurant. The lunch was delicious! After that we left to go back to Puno which was a 3 hour boat ride. To get to the port, we needed to walk 10 mins to an arch and then head downhill (quite a lot of steps). We got lost here as the guide told us to go ahead without telling us that there will be split roads at two different points. The direction we got from him was that "walk and you will see an arch". We had to guess at each split points which direction we go. It also got chaotic after we arrived Puno. Not everyone got the instruction to walk ahead to the main road from the port, in order to take the bus back to main centre. We managed eventually. They also constantly made us walk right after full meals, which was very difficult as we were at such high attitude. So be mindful. Overall this was an okay tour. If you are in Puno and want to learn something about the locals.

The best experience of our trip to Peru. We traveled a family of 7 people (with 2 grandparents + 3 children) and had some reluctance to it, but it proved one of the most wonderful and enriching experiences. Don’t look for luxuries, but you’ll find the warmth of native island families who welcome you with the best they have. Being able to teach your children the way of life they have in the islands of the Uros, Amantani or Taquile is priceless. Our guide Bruno was an excellent professional, caring for children, respectful of families and committed to the ancestral traditions of the islands. It’s a MUST if you want to know the culture of local communities, landscapes that leave you speechless and dreamy sunsets. Thank you, thank you and thank you very much to the families who housed us and Bruno for their interest in us knowing the traditions so that they are perpetuated over time.

Our guide Carlos was very well organized and spoke for us in a very good understandable English. He was open to questions and answered everything. He said saw a lot of exciting information. Also the overnight stay on the island of Amantani with the local population was great, but very easy. Great insight. The party for the tourists in the evening is not for everyone. I would book them tour again immediately.
