Lo Story Bridge è un ponte a sbalzo in acciaio dichiarato Patrimonio dell'Umanità che attraversa il fiume Brisbane e che trasporta il traffico veicolare, ciclabile e pedonale tra la periferia settentrionale e quella meridionale di Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. È il più lungo ponte a sbalzo in Australia. La strada che attraversa il ponte si chiama Bradfield Highway.

Dai un'occhiata alle splendide viste sulla città e sul fiume Brisbane! Le scogliere di Kangaroo Point furono create dai detenuti che estraevano la roccia vulcanica o l'ignimbrite o il tufo saldato che formano le scogliere.[2] Queste lave e rocce piroclastiche si depositarono nel periodo Triassico circa 230 milioni di anni fa e riempirono un'antica valle fluviale. Queste rocce erano conosciute come porfido e in seguito divennero note come l'unità geologica chiamata tufo di Brisbane.[3] I registri indicano che fu il capitano Patrick Logan, comandante dell'insediamento penale di Moreton Bay, ad aprire per primo una cava per fornire pietra ai suoi lavori di costruzione già nel 1826. La pietra della cava è stata utilizzata per rivestire parti del fiume Brisbane con muri, per il Manly Boat Harbour e nel nuovo porto di Brisbane. La cava chiuse definitivamente nel 1976.[3]
Guarda Brisbane dall'alto con viste a quasi 360 gradi della città! Prima dell'insediamento penale di Moreton Bay, il Monte Coot-tha era la dimora degli aborigeni Yugara. Gli aborigeni venivano nella zona per raccogliere il ku-ta, la parola Yugarabul per il miele prodotto dall'ape nativa senza pungiglione. Nel 1839, il geometra James Warner e la sua squadra ripulirono la cima della montagna da tutti gli alberi tranne un grande albero di eucalipto. Poiché questo singolo albero poteva essere visto da molti altri punti, venne utilizzato come stazione trigonometrica per effettuare misurazioni topografiche. Ciò ha portato la montagna a essere chiamata One Tree Hill. Nel 1873, le foreste sulla montagna furono dichiarate riserva di legname per fornire legname alla crescente rete ferroviaria del Queensland. Il nome Coot-tha sostituì il nome One Tree Hill quando l'area fu dichiarata parco nell'agosto 1883. Il nome fu suggerito da Henry Wyatt Radford, il cancelliere del Consiglio legislativo del Queensland.

I giardini botanici di Brisbane hanno una serie di attrazioni con piante provenienti da paesaggi diversi, tra cui una serra tropicale, un giardino giapponese, una zona arida (piante dell'America centrale e dell'Africa) e una zona delle isole del Pacifico. La mostra principale è l'esposizione di 27 ettari (67 acri) di piante autoctone australiane (con enfasi sulle piante del Queensland), caratterizzata da una laguna artificiale.
Visita il santuario dei koala più longevo d'Australia! Un piccolo zoo fantastico! Il Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary è stato aperto nel 1927 dal Queenslander, Claude Reid. Inizialmente abbiamo aperto con solo due koala, Jack e Jill, in un periodo in cui i koala selvatici venivano abbattuti per il commercio di pellicce. Claude ha subito capito che era necessario fare qualcosa per aiutare a proteggere una delle specie più iconiche dell’Australia. Il santuario prende il nome dall'enorme pino cembro che si trova ancora oggi presso il nostro ingresso biglietteria. Si dice che il singolo pino fosse un indicatore di posizione per gli ospiti che visitavano il santuario attraverso il fiume Brisbane, ormeggiando le loro barche al "pino solitario". L'albero fu piantato da Daniel Clarkson nel 1867, quando la proprietà era una fattoria di cotone.

What a wonderful day! Mark took us straight to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary before all the big tour buses arrived. We spent over two hours there and got to feed the kangaroos and touch the koala. It was getting very busy when we left. Lunch out was delicious and the views of Brisbane were spectacular. Thank you!

It was a difficult weather day, not the tour company’s fault obviously. Generally they did a good job improvising and making the best of it; however having better process over checking people in, who had bought lunch, who was not riding back, and the communication of where/when to meet could have been better. We would definitely do again, and felt it was still good value, despite Mother Nature raining on our parade!

Tania provided an excellent tour of Brisbane, including Mt. Coot-tha, the river area and bridge, and the botanical gardens where we had a good lunch. We ended the tour at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we fed the kangaroos and met an adorable koala. I highly recommend this tour for anyone traveling to Brisbane.

Had a wonderful time on this tour. While we left late due to one couple arriving well after the clearly stated time, Mark (our guide) did a great job rearranging our itinerary, so we were able to see everything we wanted to see. Loved the small van vs. the BIG bus you end up on when you book through the cruise line. We were able to hop off quickly at all the stops, spend an appropriate amount of time, and jump right back on. We could have spent less time at the Koala Sanctuary as most of the group were done under 2 hours (we were allotted 2.5 hours) so suggestion for future would be somehow predetermine how long the stay should be.

Great customer service from booking to return to the cruise terminal. Tanya is a great guide and driver, if you overlooked her dad jokes! 🤣 Lunch was very nice and tasty after our highlights tour and set us up nicely for the lone pine tree visit. Bottle of water provided which was very welcome on a hot day. The packet of crisps were the dogs B as it's been 6+ weeks since I last had a packet. To get a real personal service, do book this one.
