Il tour è condotto da una guida turistica autorizzata di New York City. Offriamo questo tour in francese o inglese. Le nostre guide turistiche sono madrelingua se ciascuna lingua. In questo tour visiteremo 9 siti storici che includono le prime chiese episcopali nere, metodiste, pentecostali e battiste. Esamineremo la loro storia, i loro leader e il loro ruolo nel movimento contro la schiavitù e nel movimento per i diritti civili. Questo tour esamina anche il ruolo della musica gospel nella storia della chiesa nera. Ne studieremo la crescita dal ring grido (il fondamento di tutta la musica afroamericana), agli Spirituals, al ruolo degli inni protestanti, per finire con quello che divenne noto come Gospel Blues, oggi chiamato semplicemente Gospel music. Il tour termina con la visita ad una funzione religiosa dove ascolteremo un coro Gospel dal vivo, non è un concerto ma una vera e propria funzione religiosa.

La chiesa battista di Mt. Olivet è una chiesa battista del sud che ha fedelmente servito la nostra comunità locale per oltre 200 anni.
L'indirizzo si riferisce ad una sezione di Malcolm X Boulevard (ex Lenox Avenue) ad Harlem, New York City, precisamente tra la 118a e la 120a strada. Quest'area rientra nel CAP 10027. Malcolm X Boulevard corre da nord a sud attraverso Harlem, e la sezione specificata è nel cuore del quartiere.

"The Freedom Church" è stata costituita nel 1796 da membri afroamericani della chiesa metodista di John Street prevalentemente bianca. We had booked a visit in French with Kaissa at the end of December. Unfortunately Kaisa could not be our guide that day. She did everything to fit us into another group with a great guide so as not to cancel the tour. Very interesting visit. Thank you.

We toured the area with a wonderful guide, a former teacher. He was a man of many talents—he spoke engagingly, has a beautiful voice and movements. He is music himself. The concert in the church was an unforgettable experience. Moreover, the organizers were constantly in touch with us to ensure we started on time and felt safe. I will be back with my family.

What an excellent experience. Not only they were very punctual, but our tour felt like a true history class. Actually, better than that, cause I don't remember having this much fun in school. The ending at church watching the choir singing live was an amazing experience. If you're coming to NY and would like to learn more about black history, this is your chance
