We were taken through history with stood in the museum and the streets of Lecce. Our guide Mattia was fabulous, super engaging, and knowledgeable! I can’t recommend the tour enough
Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we highly recommend this tour . Thank you for all the information
A highlight of my trip to Puglia. Embedded in a beautiful part of Italy there is a lost connection to jewish life there. Completely lost thanks, not to Hitler, but to its Habsburg history and consequent expulsion ordinances. However there is evidence uncovered lovingly by local historians who have embraced the archaeological evidence and now have an entrancing museum with outstanding video stories and knowledgeable guides who bring this alive for its visitors. There are individual connections and an actual surviving mikveh. It was an entrancing hour enjoyed by both its jewish and non jewish tourists and looked after by a non jewish but caring staff cohort.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We did the walking tour of the ancient Jewish quarter in Lecce and were really excited. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours and was very informative and exciting. You get a fascinating insight into a part of the history of Lecce that you would probably easily overlook without a tour. Our guide was very friendly, competent and explained the history of the Jewish quarter in a lively and understandable way. The walk through the small streets and the many historical details she showed us was especially beautiful. You can tell that she is very well versed and conveys the story with a lot of passion. Time passed very quickly and the mix of history, architecture and local stories was perfect. We learned a lot and at the same time experienced a very pleasant atmosphere throughout the tour. A clear recommendation for anyone who wants to better understand Lecce and discover a special part of the city.
Very interesting and something not many people know about. It is an important history of Lecce and Judaism in Puglia.
Important tourist attraction for all tourists to the Puglia region. A great guide and a friendly way to meet people from all over the world.
The guide showed us interesting streets around the Jewish area. However, back at the museum, her commentary was drowned out by a very loud zoom session which made it very difficult to hear the guide. It was still worth a visit
This does not appear to be a very popular activity in Lecce but if you have interest, it is a good tour. It starts in the jewish museum where your guide gives you an overview of Jewish life in Lecce, followed by some quick videos, then it's off to stroll the streets. The guide, well prepared and personable. Well worth the time if you have interest
We’re pleased you found the tour both interesting and enjoyable. Thanks again for joining us!
If you are driving to Leche for the tour, don't follow Viator instructions. This will take you into the ZTL restricted area and you will be fined 90 euros!!! We were frustrated, lost and very annoyed that Viator did not warn us of this
This tour and the Jewish museum are a must see! We had a wonderful 1-hour tour with Sara. We were traveling with my 89 yr old dad who uses a mobility scooter and they made sure the tour was accessible to him. (Thank you!) Sara was a great storyteller and charming, everything you could possibly ask for in a guide. The museum is performing a critical function in restoring the awareness of Lecce’s jewish community which was profound and complex and sad, and had been erased for a very long time. The museum is full of interesting artifacts and plans to continue and expand its work. Truly amazing. Thank you to Michelangelo and everyone else who is taking on this work in such a thoughtful way.
We’re pleased you found the tour with Sara both interesting and enjoyable. Thanks again for joining us! Hope to see you again soon!
