In questo tour a piedi riporteremo la nostra mente indietro di oltre 200 anni, all'epoca in cui Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles della Compagnia britannica delle Indie Orientali arrivò a Singapore, fondò una stazione commerciale britannica nel 1819, divenne parte degli Insediamenti dello Stretto nel 1826, e infine una colonia separata della corona britannica nel 1867. Visiteremo strutture ben conservate delle epoche georgiana, vittoriana ed edoardiana e maestosi edifici in stile neoclassico, tutti restaurati per mostrare lo splendore della Singapore coloniale. Rendiamo omaggio ai nostri ex padroni coloniali che hanno lasciato dietro di sé la loro eredità di attenta pianificazione urbanistica, solido sistema legale, buon sistema educativo, solide infrastrutture, architettura impressionante, ecc., che hanno sicuramente giocato un ruolo significativo nello sviluppo della moderna Singapore. Verso mezzogiorno, ci rilasseremo e ci godremo il pranzo in riva al fiume Singapore a Boat Quay, prima di riprendere il nostro tour del quartiere civico e della vecchia città europea.

La nostra storia inizia con come gli inglesi fondarono la loro stazione commerciale a Singapore nel 1819, dove i primi coloni europei costruirono le loro case, e come venne costruita la prima chiesa anglicana nel 1836.
Esploriamo i 2 edifici coloniali che ora compongono la National Gallery Singapore, vale a dire l'ex edificio municipale (in seguito ribattezzato City Hall Building) e l'ex edificio della Corte Suprema. Entra nella camera in cui Lord Louis Mountbatten accettò la resa dei giapponesi il 12 settembre 1945, nelle celle dell'ex Corte Suprema, ecc.

Great morning in Singapore, with fascinating bits of information to kick off my visit. Ping was a wonderful guide to her city’s history and really made me wish for far more time here to explore every corner. I loved the fact that lunch was included in the experience, and would recommend this tour wholeheartedly!
Ping's tour was excellent. She was informative, knowledgeable and shared both facts and anecdotes that were interesting. The locations chosen to focus on were varied and demonstrated Singapore's history well. Ping took time to answer everyone's questions well and we did not feel rushed on the tour at all. The tour size was good ( we had 11 in our group). I would thoroughly recommend this tour.

Excellent. Ping (our guide) was charming, approachable and very knowledgeable. She made the whole tour interesting and relatable, taking us to some places that we would not have found if we had been independent tourists.
I couldn't fault this tour- really well researched and explained, lots of interesting information and we went into buildings that told the story of Singapore which are free for the public to go into but as a tourist you'd never know it! Ping finds plenty of seated areas either in shade or air-con to tell the story, so you never feel too hot or tired. I wish I'd done this tour the first time I came to Singapore!
The tour was very well organised by our tour guide Ping. She is very knowledgeable about Singapore and its history, and we learnt so much during our time together. I would highly recommend her tour, and we will definitely book her other tour options when we are back in Singapore.
