Risalente alla fine del XII secolo, è stata segnata dal passare del tempo, conservando tracce dell'antica città romana di Sellium. Pantheon dei Cavalieri Templari in Portogallo
La chiesa principale della città. Risale agli inizi del XIII secolo, anche se ciò che si può intravedere oggi risale alla fine del XV secolo (influenza manuelina). Qui abbiamo potuto salire sul campanile e godere di un'ottima vista.
Al centro dell'antico quartiere ebraico medievale si trova la sinagoga, considerata la più antica del Portogallo (prima metà del XV secolo), perché fu costruita ex novo e non fu mai completamente distrutta dall'Inquisizione, assumendo solo diverse funzioni, di cui si possono vedere ancora oggi le tracce.
Piccolo museo dedicato all'arte contemporanea, ci presenta la nascita della corrente surrealista in Portogallo (opere di Júlio Pomar e Mário Cesarinny, per esempio). È dovuto al generoso dono del patrimonio personale di José-Augusto França, il primo storico dell'arte portoghese, da parte di Tomé.
un museo che espone una collezione privata di Aquiles Mota Lima, con 60.000 scatole di fiammiferi provenienti letteralmente da tutto il mondo (127 Paesi).
In cima alla collina, troviamo la fortezza templare, il castello di Tomar, che al suo interno ospita uno degli edifici più grandi del Portogallo - presentandoci tracce dal romanico al barocco (7 secoli di storia). È qui che si comprenderà la relazione tra l'Ordine dei Cavalieri Templari e l'Ordine di Cristo. Un'immersione nella vita conventuale medievale e in tutto il simbolismo che, volenti o nolenti, rimarrà avvolto nel mistero e nell'enigma.

Had a great day with Monica who is really pulling out all the stops for the best experience. As a true local, she knows Tomar like the back of her hand and as a graduate historian she knows every symbol you ask a question about.
