Questo è un tour a piedi del patrimonio ebraico nel centro di Salonicco, dove la principale comunità ebraica viveva e lavorava da secoli. Sebbene oggigiorno non sia conservato gran parte dei vecchi edifici, a causa del terribile incendio del 1917 e delle distruzioni della seconda guerra mondiale, la Comunità ebraica di Salonicco apre i principali siti legati al patrimonio ebraico. Questo tour può essere effettuato solo la mattina, quando i siti sono aperti fino alle 14:00, non il sabato. Resta sintonizzato per i messaggi di aggiornamento dalla tua guida sugli orari esatti. Un tour più lungo può anche essere organizzato su richiesta con trasporto privato per vedere il lato est della città con le antiche ville ebraiche dell'inizio del XX secolo, il nuovo cimitero ebraico all'estremità ovest e anche la vecchia stazione ferroviaria, nota per la deportazione dell'Olocausto di 50.000 ebrei da parte dei nazisti sui treni. Le visite al Museo Ebraico e alla sinagoga richiedono una prenotazione anticipata da parte della guida, con nome completo, passaporto e dettagli sulla nazionalità da inviare in anticipo.

Il Monastoriotes è la cosiddetta "vecchia" sinagoga della città, recentemente ristrutturata ed è visitabile su richiesta e su appuntamento dalle vostre guide turistiche, con i dettagli del passaporto necessari per tutti i visitatori. Il biglietto d'ingresso è compreso nel biglietto combinato di 7 euro insieme alla visita guidata al museo ebraico.

Il famoso mercato coperto di Modiano del 1930 è stato appena ristrutturato ed è ora aperto! Ospita molti piccoli negozi di alimentari, che prendono il nome dall'architetto della città, Eli Modiano.
Il Museo Ebraico di Salonicco è ospitato in un edificio storico. Vedremo le mostre sul vecchio cimitero ebraico, gli abiti tradizionali e gli oggetti religiosi delle antiche sinagoghe e una mostra fotografica sulla storia degli ebrei in città dall'antichità ai tempi moderni. È possibile acquistare libri e souvenir dal piccolo negozio del museo. Il biglietto d'ingresso per il museo e la sinagoga è un biglietto combinato di 7 euro a persona.
Il Memoriale dell'Olocausto si trova sul lungomare, in Liberty Square. Vedrai lo scultore che rappresenta l'olocausto con sette fiamme, a forma di Menorah e corpi umani, creato da Nandor Glid nel 1997. Sentirai parlare del Black Sabbath day, che si è svolto nella stessa piazza.

Efi was both a guide and a historian. She is dedicated to the survival of history. Within 5 months the Nazis deported almost 60,000 Jews to Aushwitz, wiping out more than 90% of Jews who had lived in Greece and Macedonia since biblical times. Efi is very knowledgable but it was a 3/hour recitation of facts and figures and buildings. Disappointed in lack of color, storytelling, charm, or narrative of interesting unusual Jewish personalities - it was all about the business families whose names still grace the buildings. Very dry.
Dear Eve, I'm sorry you did not enjoy my private Jewish Heritage tour, but you don't mention that you attended only half of it. My full private tour always starts with the introduction on the history of Thessaloniki's Jewish Community from the ancient till the modern times so my guests can first have the historical, cultural and political background with some basic facts before they attend the rest of the tour. You did not want to continue to the rest of the walk, so you missed the visit to the Jewish Museum, to some central streets and to the Holocaust Memorial with me, which means that you missed many more stories and narrative I always share with my guests in different places. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Greece and thank you for visiting my city.
