Been with my daughter. Was a very nice experience. Very friendly staff who speak their languages well. Nice horses and nicely ridden. Definitely worth repeating!
Super friendly and helpful staff! I'm terrible with names but one was I think Michelle / Michaela (Spanish or Canarian) and the other I think Rhianne (Scottish?). I'm a beginner and my daughter advanced so we had slightly different experiences but they were both completely suitable for our levels. My daughter came back from the gallop beaming! The nature of the island means that the landscape is rugged (but beautiful) and the horses were clearly used to it as they seemed comfortable with the trek throughout. If you're looking for a gentle pony trek along easy footings then horse riding in Gran Canaria is probably not what you're looking for generally. If you want dramatic scenery, fantastic views and glorious sunshine on sturdy steeds across rugged terrain with friendly and helpful staff then book this place!
I booked the 2 hour experience for my family inc. my 13yo horse mad daughter. It was a hot day and the guides immediately offered us the opportunity to rebook, if we felt it was too hot to enjoy the experience. We were happy to continue and we're then issued helmets and taken through a safety brief and paired with our house. Our guides Laura and Rhian, explained everything and made sure everyone was comfortable. The trek takes you through an off road dirt track, up and over rocky hills, and for those that are confident at trotting (like my daughter) they got to head off in front for a short trot, before meeting up with the rest of the group. The horses are well taken care of and the stables are well maintained and equiped with refreshments, that can be purchased, as well as little mementos too. Recommend bringing your own water bottle for the trek, as they provide water bottle sleeves on the horse's tack, so you can keep hydrated during the trek. Would 100% recommend this experience
Thank you so much for your review!
Absolutely amazing experience for performing of all levels. The guides were so informative and kind. Even offered to collect from the hotel which we used, the staff were so helpful and friendly. Full 2 hours of riding a beautiful trail with opportunities to take photos. Small groups allowed the staff to be very attentive! Very affordable compared to other places and definitely worth it. Thank you to the staff for a lovely morning!!
A dreadful experience. My daughter (who is a proficient rider) was bitten by one of the horses - totally unprovoked. There was no ice packs available as apparently they did have lots but they were stolen by people who were lent them! This does beg the question as to how often they are needed. A dirty horse leg ice pack was offered after I asked and again after I asked some antiseptic. The instructor admitted the horse was an ex race horse that had been poorly treated and had a tendency to bite. My 9 year old son who I was clear had never ridden a horse was left with a very large horse on his own to walk from the stable to the dressage area. The horse wouldn’t move and a member of the public came to help him. My daughter although in a lot of pain did try and start the trek on a different horse but it was not calm and so we both turned back. I am horrified that an animal known to bite was left with a child along with a small child left to manage a large horse on its own while the rest of our party stood helpless holding onto other horses. The total lack of first aid and any regard for my daughter was shocking. The guide who drove the minibus did go off to a nearby house to get ice and did check in on us unlike anyone else. For a company that claims it caters for children and has animals that are calm and safe my experience was the total opposite. Whilst mine and my daughters monies were refunded the whole experience was very traumatic and for the remaining 6 people in our group including my 9 year old who had to continue on the trek without me it was very much ruined. In addition I had to pay for medical supplies due to the absolute lack of any on site.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are truly sorry that your visit ended this way, especially because your daughter’s injury understandably overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable day. The safety and welfare of both our guests and our horses are our highest priorities, so we would like to clarify a few points. Firstly, we are pleased that your daughter recovered quickly and that the injury did not require stitches. Nevertheless, any injury to a guest is something we take very seriously. The horse involved is not an ex-racehorse, nor is it known to have a tendency to bite. We have no previous record of similar incidents with this horse. Horses are living animals and, although rare, unexpected behaviour can occasionally occur despite careful handling and supervision. Regarding your son, our standard procedure is that horses are always led by our staff when children or inexperienced riders are moving between the stable and the mounting area. We are sorry if, at any moment, you felt he was not receiving enough assistance, as that is certainly not the experience we aim to provide. We also regret that our first-aid response did not meet your expectations. We do keep first-aid supplies on site, and our guide immediately went to obtain additional ice to make your daughter as comfortable as possible. We appreciate your feedback, as it has prompted us to review our procedures to ensure we can respond even more effectively in the future. As soon as it became clear that your daughter was unable to continue comfortably, we issued a full refund for both of you without hesitation. While we know this cannot undo what happened, we felt it was the right thing to do. We are sorry that this unfortunate incident affected the rest of your family’s experience. Over the past 25 years, we have safely welcomed many thousands of riders, including children and complete beginners, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, horse welfare and customer care. We sincerely wish you and your family all the best.
I booked through GetYourGuide and included the option with hotel pick up as I was staying in Puerto Rico. The pick up was on time and Dino was fantastic. He was so knowledgable about all of the horses and so easy to talk to. We picked up other people and the way and arrived at the stable about 15 minutes before the 10am ride was scheduled to start. This gave us time to get helmets/water/boots (which you can rent and are advised to if you’re wearing open toe shoes). All of the staff were so friendly from the start. All of the horses there were in excellent condition. We were given an introduction where we split into three groups: beginners or people who have never been on a horse, those who are comfortable trotting and those who are comfortable galloping. There was a demonstration of how to ride (position/reins/legs etc) and you were then asked to state your experience so they could match you to your horse. When you knew the name of your horse, you went down to the arena to get on. This process was speedy and meant that some of the fidgety horses were ready to go straight away. Main piece of advice is be honest about your experience! The horses are raring to go so will likely have a bit of fidget whilst waiting to go which could be off putting for some people. As a rider with 20+ years experience, I was put on Avalon who was a strong but beautiful horse. I felt completely comfortable from the start. The trek goes through very rocky and steep terrain and the guides monitor how close you are to the horse in front to keep everyone safe. About 20 minutes in, you split up into a trotting group where the guides can check your position and you can get a feel for the horse before deciding if you want to gallop later on. Further into the ride, you stop for pictures taken by the guide. This is a nice time to admire the views and have a drink. Then you split into the gallop group. I’ve seen people complain about how short the gallop section is and while it is about 30 seconds maximum, in the heat it felt fair to keep it this length for both the horse and rider. When I went, it was around 32° and by the end of the flat out gallop, me and Avalon were definitely feeling the heat. The guide who took us on the gallop (Amanda) was fantastic. She filmed the gallop for us and was so easy to talk to. The ride then starts to go back down the hill towards the stables again. When back at the stables, there’s opportunities to buy merchandise (including keyrings, magnets of the horse you rode or even their horseshoes!) and to buy treats for your horse. This was such a lovely final touch and Avalon definitely appreciated and had earned his treats at the end! Overall it was a fantastic experience. Thank you so much El Salobre!
Dear Katie, Thank you so much for sharing your experience. We are happy to know you had a memorable time! Regards from the whole Team, especially from Avalon❤️
Well worth it - the horses are healthy and well cared for it seems. Everything was very well organized, safety briefing and riding instructions were very comprehensive. The guides were very attentive. They have water bottle holders attached to the saddle so you can take a small bottle of water out on the ride. A mask would be a good idea as it gets very dusty. Lots of photo opportunities and the guides will take a picture as well. They take their time to match you to a suitable horse to ride and keep you in a line with your party. The advertised trot and gallop was very short so if that’s your deciding factor between a 1 or 2 hour back then don’t expect longer than a short burst of each once. We had a lovely day and my daughter loved the experience. Having riding experience the horses go at their own pace and are very safe. Would recommend these stables.
Thank you so much for your review🥰
My wife, our two children (aged 14 and 10), and I booked the 1.5-hour sunset horse ride, and it was one of the highlights of our holiday in Gran Canaria. We only have a small amount of horse-riding experience, but the team made us feel completely at ease from the moment we arrived. There was no unnecessary waiting around—we were introduced to our horses (Carbinara, Titanic, Bounty and Cookie), given clear instructions, and soon set off into the mountains. All of the horses were incredibly calm, well-behaved and easy to ride. They happily followed each other in line, allowing us to relax and take in the stunning scenery rather than worry about controlling the horses. Watching the sun set over the mountains while riding was absolutely surreal. It was peaceful, beautiful, and an experience our family will remember for many years. Our two guides were fantastic—friendly, knowledgeable and able to speak English, Norwegian and German fluently, making everyone feel welcome. Boot hire was just €3 per pair, which we thought was very reasonable, and bottled water was only €1.50 each. The horses even have small pockets to carry your water, which was a thoughtful touch. This isn’t the cheapest tourist activity on the island, but it’s worth every penny for the memories you’ll take home. What we loved most was how genuine the whole experience felt. It’s a real family-run business with no photographers following you around trying to sell expensive photos afterwards. It’s authentic, down-to-earth, and focused on giving you an unforgettable experience rather than upselling extras. A quick tip for anyone booking: wear trainers or boots, as sandals, Crocs and other open-toe shoes aren’t suitable. Trousers or shorts are both fine, and you’ll be provided with a disposable hair net and a riding hat before you set off. Thank you to the whole team for such a wonderful evening. We would highly recommend El Salobre Horse Riding to anyone visiting Gran Canaria.
Thank you so much for sharing you experience ❤️
Amazing amazing amazing! We booked through TUI while on our holiday to Gran Canaria. We booked and my daughter (7) had an amazing time. I was a bit concerned before attending for my daughter’s safety as we were both absolute beginners. I need not have worried the staff were very professional and had all the safety points covered and tailored each horse to each persons ability and age. Everyone there was so lovely and I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone who is visiting Gran Canaria. If you’re considering this experience do it! If you’re not considering it, do, as it is magical. Special shout out to Michelle, thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you 🥰
Great experience. Overall very positive. The communication worked smoothly. The transfer was ahead of schedule and problem-free. Both guides were very friendly. German, English, and Spanish were spoken. Safety is prioritized, and hairnets are provided for helmet hygiene. So anyone who does not want one should bring their own helmet. There is a note about long pants and sturdy footwear. I felt very, very comfortable with the choice of horse. Rayo is sure-footed, but not for beginners. The group was very mixed, which did not really bother me primarily. The terrain is challenging. However, I think that zero riding experience is out of place here. That became very clear in the group. Even though the animals are super sweet and let you do almost anything with them, basic knowledge of horses should be present so that you do not hurt them and give wrong signals. I would have liked a little more galloping distance. Not just uphill. I would have liked to have had a little more time for Rayo afterward as well. A little cuddling in the stall and not just feeding him the apples I brought. Overall conclusion: I had a great 2 hours on one of the most beautiful animals on earth. I will definitely come back.
Vielen Dank 🤩
