Tempio Selogriyo e Trekking Java Terrazze di riso, cascata nascosta -Natura Java

We had a wonderful experience with Fery, our driver and guide, who was incredibly friendly, accommodating and thoughtful throughout the entire day. During the trek through the rice terraces around Selogriyo and later at Kedung Kayang Waterfall, he was always attentive and made sure I was safe, especially along the steeper and more uneven parts of the trail. I really appreciated how considerate he was without ever making the experience feel rushed or overly cautious. He was also very knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting information about the local history, culture and way of life along the way, which made the whole trip much more meaningful than simply visiting the sights. What stood out most was how genuinely friendly and thoughtful he was throughout the day. I felt very well looked after from beginning to end. Highly recommended, and I would happily book a tour with him again.

Our driver/guide Aman was very pleasant and informative. The drive to the rice fields gave us a snapshot of life outside Yogyakarta city. The walk through the rice fields to the temple was a very pleasant, easy walk. The temple and garden was very calming and our local coffee was tasty. We then drove to the waterfall over an hour from the temple towards Merapi volcano. After 3 months with no rain there was still water flowing. However there is limited opportunity to walk all the way down to the base of the falls. I recommend the temple and rice fields but not the waterfalls in the same trip.

While our daughters were off visiting Jomblang Cave, my wife and I chose to explore the rice fields with Asmaradhana Borobudur Tours. We were met by Bima, whose excellent English made it easy for us to enjoy a wide range of fascinating conversations about Java, village life and the process of growing rice. We were taken to a village outside Yogyakarta and treated to stunning scenery as we walked through the fields, passing locals hard at work planting and harvesting rice. The variety of crops was remarkable, including chillies, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, aubergines, lemongrass, coffee and much more. It was a wonderful opportunity to see rural life at close quarters and gain a real insight into how much work goes into producing the food grown here. After visiting Selogriyo Temple, we stopped on the way down at a small, perfectly formed drinks stall run by an enterprising young couple. Their local coffee was excellent, but the real hit was the hot chocolate and ginger drink. We enjoyed it so much that we bought some of the powder to take home with us. We had set off early and felt very privileged to experience such a beautiful place before other visitors arrived. It isn't a busy area by any means, but the early morning light was particularly special, with just us and the local farmers working in the fields. It was a fantastic day, combining beautiful scenery, fascinating conversations and a genuine glimpse into rural Javanese life. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for something a little different and a chance to experience Java beyond the usual tourist attractions.

Maxi really made the trip memorable, he is incredibly knowledgeable and so friendly and professional! The experience in itself was amazing and would definitely recommend to other people! I would say is value for money as well.

The walk through the rice paddies is very beautiful, we learned a lot. It was quiet and very pleasant. Afterward they take you to another area where you visit the waterfall; they did not warn us that to reach it you have to cross the river, wading in up to your knees. So we were not prepared... But the experience is very beautiful and the waterfall is impressive. Our guide was very kind

Marvelous tour of the greater Yogyakarta area! This is a lovely option for those interested in getting out into the countryside of central Java. Selogriyo Temple, the rice terraces, and Kedung Kayang Waterfall are all glorious. My guide was Didik, who did a great job caring for me. We even had a terrific lunch together, which he helped find in Yogyakarta. I recommend this tour.

Our tour with Maxie was a delight. From the pick up he was warm and welcoming and made us feel at ease. We started in the beautiful rice paddies where Maxie showed and told us all about the cycle of planting and the villagers strong relationship to their land. Always ready with a laugh and a smile, he guided us up through the rice paddies pointing out a wide variety of plant and animal life, including the incredible golden ladybugs which have to be seen to be believed. We trekked to one of the higher points of the mountain to see an ancient hidden Hindu temple from the 10th century. Maxie told us the story of the king who built it for his private meditation space, and we immediately understood why. It is so peaceful and serene. After our climb we stopped for award winning traditional Indonesian coffee and deep fried banana prepared by one of the friendly locals. The atmosphere and view was amazing and breathtaking. We then went back down the mountain and drove to a local warung for some lunch. The most delicious meal I have had so far during our stay in Indonesia - kupat tahu and iced jasmine tea. Just what we needed after all that walking. Our final stop was the hidden waterfall at the base of mt merapi. We chose to observe from the viewing platforms above, but if you have the energy Maxie will take you to see it from the base. The view was spectacular even with fog obscuring the mountains on this particular day. Maxie returned us home safely and farewelled us with one more trademark smile. We are so incredibly grateful for our experience and would recommend Maxie's tours to everyone. Matur nuwun to Maxie and the kind villagers who hosted us ❤️

I had an awesome, fun-filled experience hiking up to Selogriyo temple, trekking a bit of the rice fields and lastly to the waterfall with Fery :). Fery was super informative and thoughtful, helping to carry my bags and provide balance when I had some difficulty wading across the river. He was also flexible and we stopped at a kopi luwak shop to try it, on the way back to Jogja. This tour is highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and culture!
