A Vravrona troverai un'affascinante miscela di storia antica e patrimonio cristiano. Accanto al tempio di Artemide/Diana si trova la chiesa di San Giorgio, creando una giustapposizione unica. Questo sito, situato in una zona umida costiera, era soggetta a inondazioni ogni inverno, costringendo alla costruzione di ponti che esistono ancora oggi.

La leggenda narra che Artemide, irritato per l'uccisione di due giovani orse, inflisse una piaga ad Atene. Per placarla, gli Ateniesi mandavano ragazze dai 5 ai 10 anni a servirla nel suo tempio, conosciute come arkti (orsi). Qui si tenevano festival come il Vravronia, con musica, sport e recitazioni di poesie.
Situato vicino al maestoso santuario di Artemide, in mezzo a una vegetazione lussureggiante, questo piccolo museo custodisce tesori di Vravrona e Mesogeia. Le mostre spaziano dall'epoca preistorica a quella romana, con punti salienti tra cui sculture di "orsi" e raffigurazioni di giovani devoti in onore della dea Artemide. Tas met us at our cruise ship, and loaded up our luggage. He brought Greek cookies, and stopped to buy us coffee! (not an easy task) Driving through the countryside was gorgeous, with small farms & animals. We spent a lovely day at the Temple of Artemis, which is truly a hidden gem! Not too many people, fascinating ruins to walk through, and an excellent museum. Tas is a wealth of historical and cultural information, and truly kind and personable. Most highly recommended!!!

This all-day trip was a fantastic way to see some of the sights outside the city. Peter was a great driver and guide during the travel times between sites. The actual sites themselves were at your own pace, which was a fun way to dig into the history as much as we wanted. The entire tour was great, but the Temple of Poseidon was the highlight (along with lunch on the coast).
