Tanino; taxi driver (and now a friend) from Catania whom you can trust. During our journey through Sicily, we were looking for a rental car in Catania to go up to Etna, do some sightseeing there, and continue to Messina in the early afternoon, leaving the car there. We were four Spanish friends with carry-on luggage and backpacks. It was difficult to find someone who would rent us a car allowing us to leave it in Messina. Tanino appeared, knowing our need, and offered to take us on the route Catania + Etna + Messina… for €200. He asked for a bit more, but accepted a discount. He fulfilled everything he committed to at all times. He was serious about business. At Etna, he not only waited for us upon our return from climbing the craters, but he also advised us on the best options. At all times, he kept our luggage well guarded in his minivan. Taking us to Messina Centrale and arriving at 4 PM. Tanino is worth it. He is honest, a good driver, and cheerful in his interactions. With him, even though the excursion is a bit more expensive than renting a car (considering rental + fuel + tolls to Messina + insurance (third-party, as we couldn't find full coverage)).... Rifugio la Sapienza has been recently renovated and is located about 2000 MT on Mount Etna, lovely place! We had lunch and enjoyed local dishes and recommend it to anyone. Etna + refuge + Great food equals saying super experience. Top shelter!
