Santhome Basilica, Little Mount e St Thomas Mount
Questa imponente cattedrale cattolica romana, a due passi dalla spiaggia, fu fondata dai portoghesi nel 1523, poi ricostruita dagli inglesi in stile neogotico nel 1896, e si dice che segnasse l'ultimo luogo di riposo di San Tommaso Apostolo. Si ritiene che "Il dubbio Tommaso" portò il cristianesimo nel subcontinente nel 52 d.C. e fu ucciso a St Thomas Mount, Chennai, nel 72 d.C. Sebbene la maggior parte dei resti mortali di San Tommaso apparentemente si trovino ora in Italia, una croce sulla parete della tomba contiene un minuscolo frammento osseo contrassegnato con "Reliquia di San Tommaso". Il museo sopra mostra reperti legati a Thomas, tra cui la testa di lancia che si ritiene abbia ucciso. Si dice che St Thomas 'Pole, all'estremità della spiaggia sul lato sud della cattedrale, abbia miracolosamente salvato la cattedrale dallo tsunami del 2004.
Little Mount è una grotta in cui St.Thomas si nascose nel 68 dC e fece penitenza. C'è un'apertura ad est della caverna attraverso la quale St.Thomas è fuggito quando i suoi inseguitori lo hanno raggiunto qui. Si ritiene che le impronte di mani e le impronte delle mani vicino all'ingresso del tunnel siano quelle di St. Thomas stesso. Vedremo anche la muratura tagliata a croce in cima alla collina che si crede sia la croce davanti alla quale pregava San Tommaso. Un altro aspetto interessante di questa grotta è la sorgente all'interno della collina che è perenne e dovrebbe essere la creazione miracolosa dello stesso San Tommaso.
Il rinomato sito del martirio di San Tommaso nel 72 d.C. sorge nel sud-ovest di Chennai, a 2,5 km a nord della stazione ferroviaria e della metropolitana di St Thomas Mount. La Chiesa di Nostra Signora dell'Attesa, costruita in cima al "monte" dai portoghesi nel 1523, contiene quelli che presumibilmente sono un frammento dell'osso del dito di Thomas e la "Croce sanguinante" che ha scolpito. Le vedute della città e dell'aeroporto sono meravigliose.

It was a great experience. My guide, Rajesh was very polite and is knowledgable of the locations. I managed to even attend the mass at the Tomb of St Thomas (although that take a bit more time). I also was able to be inside the cave at the Mount of St Thomas where St Thomas prayed. Then we ended it at the St Thomas Basilica where the blood of St Thomas was spilled. I was able to touch it and say my prayers. It was well worth it.

Positive: Close to points to see, driver very available, very friendly guide and knew how to adapt his English (rhythm...) to our level of language. Medium: lunch (too spicy), we regretted not being able to get close to the source that we could see from a distance through a gap in the rock Negative: too expensive for what there was to see
