Being in Hervey Bay, you obviously go on a Whale watching cruise during the peak season for sightings. There are a number of operators but we decided to book with Spirit of Hervey Bay. Operating a large vessel with multiple decks for viewing, it was fast and we went a long way off the mainland coast but always off Fraser Island, a 125 kilometre coastline that seems to stretch forever. This is where whales are found and we were lucky to see many pods, although on most occasions, they didn’t play ball and come to close to the boat with 1 exception. It was still the closest my wife and I have come to these magnificent specimens. The skipper was great and the information he supplied was very helpful. Crew were friendly and talkative and they looked after us with afternoon tea/coffee and biscuits and muffins. Alcoholic and soft drinks could also be purchased. We really enjoyed our day even when the storm clouds and rain arrived, they too added to the days atmosphere. Would throughly recommend this company for your whale watching. Tip… Buy through experience oz and get a $100 off your booking if it is over $200
This was by far the best whale watching trip we have done on our many visits to Australia. We have never seen so many whales in a single day before! We took the afternoon boat and there was plenty of room to move around the decks. The crew were all very friendly. A great experience.
A must do experience at Hervey Bay. Well organised from the pick up to the boat tour itself. The vessel was comfortable with multiple observation areas, making it easy to spot whales from different points. We saw plenty of whales which made it more memorable for the kids.
Wow Wow Wow. the tour was absolutely fantastic. The captain gave a very good commentary on whales and the area and finding them - with a little comedy on the side. Awesome personality. The staff onboard were terrific and you can tell they love their jobs. I was hoping to see some whales but never expected them the circle the boat and go under us and really just play with us for nearly an hour. The captain even turned the boat off as he could not move. We went to a few different areas to see many whales. It was awesome. A great company to book with and a clean huge boat - even with a number of people on board - on all levels, it was never crowded and you always got a clear view of the whales. I totally recommend this tour. It was the best. and the price / fee was very reasonable . This tour is best for everyone - singles, couples, families, elderly, accessible areas. Just book it :)
What a great morning. Very professional and friendly staff. The captain was excellent at explaining about the whales. We saw lots and lots.
Very prompt morning departure time & efficient use of time in getting out into the bay. Such helpful, friendly & informative of whale behaviours, facts & figures. The timeframe was great & plenty of whales & dolphins for a must do once in a lifetime experience. A nice safe & calm atmosphere with room for & seating options for all ages. Would highly recommend.
Great tour, went on the afternoon one, we saw heaps of whales and the staff were awesome 👌 The afternoon tea was yummy too.
We saw so many whales that came right up to the boat. The boat had many viewing points and wasn’t overcrowded. The captain was extremely informative and the crew were lovely. Booking the shuttle bus was super easy and the customer service was great. Couldn’t recommend more!
Went on the Spirit of Hervey tour and had a wonderful experience with these mighty humpbacks. Lots of breaching, mugging and pec slapping going on. Great to be on the bigger boat with different levels of viewing. Totally recommend this tour.
Our group of 6 all thoroughly enjoyed our morning cruise. The crew were great and did everything possible to ensure a successful cruise. We saw many whales and our last group were happy to stay very close to our boat, fin slapping and watching us as they slowly cruised around the boat. It was good for the soul being part of this wonderful interaction between humans and these beautiful animals.
