Il Museo Culturale dello Stretto di Melaka offre un viaggio approfondito nei ricchi scambi culturali che hanno plasmato lo Stretto di Melaka, dove commercianti, esploratori e coloni provenienti da tutta l'Asia e oltre si sono incontrati per secoli. Il museo mette in evidenza la vibrante storia marittima della regione e la fusione di influenze malesi, Cinesi, indiane, arabe ed europee che hanno contribuito al patrimonio unico di Melaka. Un'attrazione chiave è la mappa del viaggio di Cheng Ho, che illustra le vaste spedizioni marittime del leggendario ammiraglio durante la dinastia Ming, a simboleggiare il ruolo vitale di Melaka come hub commerciale globale e crocevia di civiltà.

Heeren Street, conosciuta anche come Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, è una delle strade storiche più eleganti di Melaka, fiancheggiata da case a schiera Peranakan splendidamente conservate. Come parte del tour a piedi, faremo una sosta culturale qui per conoscere l'eredità di Baba Nyonya, esplorando la miscela unica di tradizioni Cinesi e malesi che hanno plasmato la cultura Peranakan, dalla loro architettura e stile di vita ai loro ricchi costumi e artigianato.
Nessun viaggio a Melaka è completo senza assaggiare il suo piatto più iconico: le polpette di riso di pollo hainanese. A differenza del solito riso di pollo, qui il riso fragrante viene arrotolato a mano in palline delle dimensioni di un morso e servito con tenero pollo in camicia, salsa al peperoncino e condimento di soia. Questa specialità locale è un'esperienza da provare che rappresenta davvero la cultura alimentare unica di Melaka.
In questa sosta, ci dedicheremo a un dolcetto amato dalla gente del posto: il tradizionale cendolo condito con un ricco sciroppo di gula Melaka. Per completare il tutto, assaggeremo anche una varietà di colorati Nyonya kuih, prelibatezze Peranakan a base di latte di cocco, pandan e riso glutinoso, che offrono un vero assaggio dei dessert tradizionali di Melaka. Termina con una nota dolce.

Mimi was our food and culture tour guide and she was excellent! Mimi was very engaging and knowledgeable, she kept the kids' attention throughout the whole tour. We had a great time exploring Melaka old town and eating our way through all the local delicacies. She brought us to hidden alleyways and beautiful traditional peranakan houses which we would not have known if we had not join the tour. Love the craft activity that we could bring home as souvenir. Highly recommend!
