Angkor è uno dei siti archeologici più importanti del sud-est asiatico. Esteso su circa 400 km2, compresa l'area boschiva, il parco archeologico di Angkor contiene i magnifici resti delle diverse capitali dell'Impero Khmer, dal IX al XV secolo. Tra questi il famoso Tempio di Angkor Wat e, ad Angkor Thom, il Tempio Bayon con le sue innumerevoli decorazioni scultoree. L'UNESCO ha istituito un programma di ampio respiro per salvaguardare questo sito simbolo e i suoi dintorni.
Il Bayon era il tempio di stato del re Jayavarman VII, costruito alla fine del XII secolo. Si tratta di un tempio di montagna costruito per rappresentare il Monte Meru, il centro dell'universo nella cosmologia indù e buddista. La caratteristica più distintiva del Bayon è la moltitudine di facce di pietra serena e massiccia sulle molte torri che sporgono dalla terrazza superiore e si raggruppano intorno al suo picco centrale La somiglianza dei 216 volti giganteschi con altre statue di Jayavarman VII ha portato molti studiosi a ipotizzare che i volti siano rappresentazioni del re stesso. Altri credono che i volti appartengano ad Avalokitesvara, il bodhisattva della compassione, mentre un altro commento ha suggerito che il tempio sia stato originariamente costruito per il dio indù Brahma. Il tempio è anche popolare per due imponenti serie di bassorilievi, che presentano una combinazione insolita di scene mitologiche, storiche e mondane. Questo è uno dei tanti templi ‘da visitare’.
Baphuon è un bellissimo “tempio-montagna” dell’XI secolo con ripide scale che conducono i visitatori a una terrazza che offre una delle migliori viste del Parco Archeologico di Angkor. Gli archeologi ritengono che questo tempio in stile piramidale, situato all'interno della città di Angkor Thom, fosse probabilmente tra i più impressionanti dei templi di Angkor ai suoi tempi. Sfortunatamente, le devastazioni del tempo e di Madre Natura hanno causato danni significativi a questo magnifico tempio, ed è stato quasi perso per la storia. Il racconto di come è stato restaurato è altrettanto impressionante quanto la struttura stessa.
Conosciuto oggi come Ta Prohm o “Vecchio Brahma”, questo monumento fu inizialmente chiamato “Rajavihara” che significa “monastero reale”. Nel 1186 d.C., Jayavarman VII consacrò qui diverse statue, la più importante delle quali era quella di Prajnaparamita, personificazione della Perfezione della Sapienza, figura che il Re identificò con sua madre.
In netto contrasto con le rovine Angkoriane, spesso affollate e popolari, Banteay Kdei è tranquillo e silenzioso. Il suo nome significa “Cittadella delle Camere”, che è adatto; le rovine sono un affascinante labirinto di camere che sono una delizia da esplorare. Servendo anche come tempio buddista, queste rovine sono state sede di un monastero attivo in più periodi di tempo dalla loro costruzione nel XII secolo, fino agli anni '60. Oggi, le rovine sono ricoperte e apparentemente dimenticate dalla vivace industria turistica di Angkor. La sua solitudine e il suo mistero la rendono una gemma nascosta per gli esploratori della regione. Alberi alti gettano ombra sui bassorilievi buddisti, e molte ore possono essere trascorse nel suo disegno sinuoso.

Our tour of Ankor Wat and surrounding temples with Tiger was great! He was super flexible with our itinerary and kept us supplied with cold bottled water all day. He took us from temple to temple and let us explore by ourselves, as well as taking us to a great place for lunch. 100% recommend!

I would really recommend Tiger, he was a brilliant tour guide, gave us great information about the sites we visited, answered all of our questions, let us go wherever we wanted to and was one of the friendliest people I have met while I have been travelling! I honestly could not recommend more, helped us fit a lot into one day with complete enthusiasm.
We had the best experience of our visit to Siem reap with tiger, we got to explore the temples at our own pace and did not feel rushed, would highly recommend over going with a tour company was really great value for money.
We did two tours with Tiger and they were both great tours. His driving was impeccable , a nice lexus car , very clean , good air conditioning. Tiger spoke excellent english. He had cold water for us, and cold wipes throughout the trips. Tiger did a great job of explaining about all of the sights , culture and history to us. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. I would definitely recommend him for any tour.

Let’s list the ways: - Communication: he is very responsive to WhatsApp messages and shared a wealth of knowledge about Angkor Wat, the temples and Cambodia today. - Charm: friendly and gracious, Tiger ensured our experience at Angkor was magical. From giving us wet wipes and chilled waters after each temple stop, to being playful and laughing along at jokes. - Photographer: meticulous, Tiger took a number of photos of us at the sites, from many different angles. He got several money shots. - Good driving: the roads can be chaotic with scooters, Tuk Tuks and other vehicles jockeying for position. Tiger got us to our destinations with speed and efficiency. Tip: you can use him and his comfortable air conditioned SUV for more than just Ankgor Wat. He also drove us to and from the airport for a separate, reasonable fee.
