Mariam, la figlia del re Ashot I, promise di costruire 30 chiese in onore del suo defunto marito. Mantenne la promessa per tutta la vita. Una di esse, Sevanavank, fu costruita nell'874. Fondata nel IV secolo, Sevanavank conobbe il suo sviluppo nel IX secolo. A parte le due chiese in piedi, il khachkar unico del XVII secolo, con le sue numerose scene bibliche, merita un'attenzione particolare. Il nome della capitale, Yerevan, è stato registrato per la prima volta sulla cupola di Sevanavank.
Il primo posto che visiteremo è il lago Sevan, la bellezza dell'Armenia. Essendo a 1900 metri sul livello del mare, Sevan è il secondo lago più alto del mondo con un approvvigionamento di acqua dolce. Sevan, di origine vulcanica, è circondata da catene montuose divise in due parti e una grande penisola. Il lago Sevan gode di una grande popolarità tra i turisti sia per la ricreazione attiva che passiva. Con una profondità massima di 83 metri, Sevan è l'unico dei tre laghi armeni storici situati sul territorio della Repubblica d'Armenia.
Sebbene in Armenia sia consuetudine utilizzare principalmente pietre di tufo o basalto per la costruzione, per il monastero di Haghartsin sono stati utilizzati due tipi di pietre: travertino e basalto. Costruito in pietra bianca, questo monastero ha avuto un proprio posto nella cultura e nell'istruzione armena dal X secolo. Il monastero era stato costruito per circa tre secoli, nella splendida valle delle foreste Tavush, nel cuore della foresta. Qui si trova anche il refettorio del monastero, considerato un capolavoro architettonico. Oltre alle strutture vere e proprie, qui si trova anche un mausoleo reale. A proposito, gata molto gustoso è venduto qui vicino.
Uno dei centri spirituali ed educativi più famosi dell'Armenia medievale è Goshavank, che ha preso il nome dal multi-talento ecclesiastico e scienziato Mkhitar Gosh. La raccolta di leggi da lui creata è considerata eccezionale per il suo tempo, ed è stata utilizzata in molte legislazioni del mondo fino ad oggi. Il complesso monastico composto da cinque chiese, tre cappelle, un vestibolo e un refettorio, non lascerà indifferente nessun turista curioso. Il monastero si trova nell'omonimo villaggio di Gosh. Merita particolare attenzione il khachkar ricamato del XIII secolo, appartenente al maestro Poghos.

Awesome full-day tour, car (minivan) in perfect conditions, WiFi onboard (!), on time at each point of stop/restart, lunch in an offline venue (Restart Boutique Hotel, quiet/peaceful/great food/private), good driver, gorgeous Armenian’s landscapes and historical masterpieces. On top of all that, however, one of the best guide in the planet, who managed to interact, involve, teach, share, emphasize her knowledge and professionalism. Ages just 23, ms Anna Symonian marked the difference from a “guided tour” to an unforgettable experience! Well done Anna and One Way Tours!
Very scenic, cool weather. Good mix of monastry and nature. I did in the midst of hot july month and this was a good escape from the burning sun. It is around 20 degrees most of the time, need a light jacket when the wind blow.
It was a wonderful day trip. Sambad knows a lot and lead an interesting tour. We learned a lot about Armenia.

Besides tasting excellent Armenian wines and brandy, we had a guided tour inside the factory, where we learned about the production process from grape to bottle.
