Questo tour inizia fuori dall'edificio della New Mexico Capitol Art Collection al 415 Don Gaspar Ave, Santa Fe. Se non sei già lì, dovresti andarci subito. Per iniziare, alzati in piedi in modo che il grande edificio circolare Art Collection sia sulla tua sinistra. Poi inizia a camminare dritto lungo l'Old Santa Fe Trail. Fermati qui e guarda alla nostra destra. Qui si trova la Cappella Loretto, costruita nel 1878. Sebbene non abbia tanta storia quanto qualcosa come la Cappella di San Miguel, ha comunque una sua pretesa di fama. Quella sarebbe la cosiddetta “scala miracolosa”.
Pausa qui. Alla nostra destra si trova la possente Basilica Cattedrale di San Francesco d'Assisi, costruita nel 1869. Si trova sul sito di una chiesa molto più antica che i missionari costruirono nel 1610. Pausa qui. Quell'edificio di mattoni di fronte a noi è il Palazzo dei Governatori, il centro amministrativo di Santa Fe dal 1610. Da qui, gli spagnoli governarono il New Mexico per decenni. Ed è qui che Po'pay punta gli occhi quando guida le sue forze pueblo in città.
Guarda un po' più avanti, sul lato sinistro della strada. Vedi il cartello bianco con scritto “cioccolato + cashmere”? Si tratta di una piccola ed elegante boutique che vende esattamente ciò che dice il nome... ma l'indirizzo stesso ha una storia molto più sorprendente.
Dopo il fallito tentativo di riconquista di Otermín, un decennio trascorre in relativa pace. Cioè, finché Diego de Vargas non entra in scena. Nel 1692 Vargas marcia su Santa Fe con solo poche centinaia di uomini e una manciata di cannoni. Ma non è lì per combattere. Offre ai Puebloani un accordo: se permettono alla Spagna di riprendere il controllo del Nuovo Messico, a tutti verrà concessa la clemenza e non saranno puniti per la loro rivolta. Dopo un lungo dibattito, i leader dei Pueblo sono d'accordo.
Continuate a camminare lungo il sentiero. Ricordati di darti un ritmo, se necessario. Attualmente siamo a più di 7.000 piedi sopra il livello del mare. Ciò significa che l'ossigeno quassù è molto più sottile di quello a cui potresti essere abituato! Quindi, se inizi a sentirti senza fiato, va bene fare una pausa!
Più avanti si erge la Croce dei Martiri, l'elemento più iconico di questo parco. Questa croce onora i 21 missionari francescani e i 380 coloni che furono uccisi durante la rivolta dei Pueblo del 1680.

Good guide, got us out of the immediate plaza area to see some other parts of Santa Fe. Tour contains a good bit of history about the city and region that we found very interesting and informative.

Id rather pay more and go with a live tour. Navigating through maps is difficult
Can you confirm that you hit “allow” for location permissions? That’s a necessary function for the tour and without it, the app won’t sync with your location as you mentioned. Since you weren’t really able to take this tour, I’d be happy to exchange it for you.

Loved this walking tour. Once you figure out where it starts it guides you step by step to your next stop. The navigation worked perfectly with the narration starting as you approached each location. The history only covered a specific time period that was applicable to what you were seeing but the story was told chronologically so you could fully understand what had happened and imagine what it must have felt like. We walked on Easter Sunday so there were no crowds although I can't imagine it would matter anyway since you listen to your own headphones. Highly recommend as a way to get a snapshot of what Old Town Santa Fe is all about.

This was exactly what I was looking for my first walk through Santa Fe! Read, download and follow instructions for everything sent before you go and it’s a breeze! The narrator is informative and speaks in a voice that is pleasant to hear. Stop and go at will but be sure to keep track of your stop numbers in case a narrative gets missed. Highly recommended!
